Daniel Jacobs to fight on December 18th in comeback bout

Image: Daniel Jacobs to fight on December 18th in comeback boutBy Jason Kim: Previously unbeaten middleweight contender Daniel Jacons (20-1, 17 KO’s) will stage a comeback fight on December 18th against a still to be determined opponent at the Pepsi Coliseum, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada . Jacobs, 23, was stopped in the 5th round in a failed attempt to capture the vacant WBO middleweight title against Russian Dimitriy Pirog on July 31st in his last fight. Jacobs came into the fight as the predicted winner. However, he was totally dominated by Pirog for four rounds before being taken out in the 5th round of a one-sided fight. Jacobs has no clue how to adjust to the Mayweather-esque movements and skills of Pirog.

Why didn’t HBO interview Pirog rather than Jacobs after the fight last Saturday?

Image: Why didn't HBO interview Pirog rather than Jacobs after the fight last Saturday?By Jim Dower: Russian Dmitry Pirog (17-0, 14 KOs) pulled of an impressive victory last Saturday night in stopping highly hyped and previously unbeaten Daniel Jacobs (20-1, 17 KO’s) in a 5th round TKO on the undercard of the Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, instead of Pirog being interviewed after the fight by HBO analyst Jim Lampley, it was Jacobs that the HBO home viewers got to listen to instead.

Can Daniel Jacobs come back from the loss to Pirog?

Image: Can Daniel Jacobs come back from the loss to Pirog?By Jason Kim: It may have been a really humiliating experience for Daniel Jacobs (20-1, 17 KO’s) to be viciously knocked out by Russian Dmitry Pirog (17-0, 14 KO’s) in the 5th round last Saturday night, but it’s only one loss. Jacobs, 23, is young enough and talented enough to learn from this defeat, improve and get beyond it to have a successful career. Anyone in the middleweight division could have been knocked out by the right hand that Pirog hit Jacobs with. And what made it even harder was that Jacobs didn’t even see the shot coming, because he was backed up against the ropes, bouncing and in the process of trying to land a right hand of his own.

Pirog very impressive in beating Jacobs

Image: Pirog very impressive in beating JacobsBy Matt Stein: Unbeaten Russian Dmitry Pirog (17-0, 14 KO’s) looked very impressive in stopping previously undefeated American Daniel Jacobs (20-1, 17 KO’s) in the 5th round last Saturday night on the undercard of the Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz clash at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jacobs, 23, was starched by a huge right hand from Pirog in the 5th that sent Jacobs down on the canvas where he laid with his eyes closed for a second or two before appearing to wake up. Jacobs then tried to get up, but referee Robert Byrd wisely chose to stop the fight at 0:57.

Marquez-Diaz Undercard: Upset for Jacobs while Guerrero and Linares cruise to victories

Image: Marquez-Diaz Undercard: Upset for Jacobs while Guerrero and Linares cruise to victoriesBy Peter Wells: Not everything last night went as planned, as expected Robert Guerrero dominated the 38-year-old Joel Casamayor and took an easy decision apart from his last round scare, and Linares did enough to make Rocky Juarez’s late surge all for nothing. But it was Daniel Jacobs another promising star at Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), who slipped up on his big night.

Danny Jacobs not Golden anymore!

Image: Danny Jacobs not Golden anymore!By Christian Ramos: Golden Boy’s nightmare came true, and Daniel “The Golden Child” Jacobs 20-1 (17), suffers his first defeat by way of 5th round T.K.O. at the hands of the new WBO Middleweight Champion, or better stated titleholder, Dmitry Pirog 17-0 (14) of Russia. Though I’m nowhere near as critical as Jim Lampley, it is clear that Sergio Martinez, unless otherwise proven, is still the Middleweight Champion of the World. Nevertheless, Pirog scores an impressive stoppage win in a fight that Danny Jacobs was never really in to begin with, although the judges interestingly had the fight 3 rounds to 1 for Jacobs at the time of the stoppage. Needless to say, Jacobs was the American fighter who was being heavily promoted and supported by Golden Boy and HBO.

Will the middleweights rule? Golovkin, Martinez, Jacobs, Pavlik, More!

Image: Will the middleweights rule? Golovkin, Martinez, Jacobs, Pavlik, More!by Ronnie Jordan: The welterweight division is currently regarded by many as the strongest and most talent packed in boxing. It’s hard to argue with this when the division posses not only the two best pound for pound fighters in the world but also a supporting cast of world class boxers like Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, and Joshua Clottey. This crop of welterweights may be one of the best group of talent ever to fight at the same weight in the same era.
