Is Khan’s Knockout Loss To Prescott a Fluke Thing?

khan562357By William Mackay: After watching lightweight Prescott (21-0, 18 KO’s) struggle tonight against journeyman Humberto Toledo, I now wonder whether most people have way overrated Prescott’s power. He looked like an average puncher tonight, nothing like the so-called knockout artist that was seen knocking Amir Khan out in the first round in September 2008.

Gamboa, Lara & Prescott All Victorious

By Eric Thomas: In a night of early knockouts due to poor matchmaking, featherweight Yuriorkis Gamboa (14-0, 12 KOs) destroyed destroyed Walter Estrada (35-9, 24 KOs) seconds into the fight, hitting him with a flurry of power shots ending with a big right hand to send him down for the count. It was no surprise, because Estrada had a poor record going into the fight and had been knocked out early in two of his last seven fights. In the end, he was simply too slow for Gamboa and looked as if he was fighting in slow motion next to the speedy Gamboa.

Prescott – Who’s Next For Breidis?

prescott4543452_02By Nate Anderson: In less than a minute, the hard-punching knockout artist Breidis Prescott (20-0, 18 KOs) destroyed the highly touted lightweight Amir Khan in the 1st round in September 2008, taking him out with powerful left hooks and exposing Khan’s weak chin in the process. The win elevated the 25 year-old Colombian to the 5th spot in the WBO while also moving him up to the #12 position in the IBF and #13 in the WBA rankings.

Would Khan Stand A Better Chance Against Prescott In a Rematch?

khan544676By Chris Williams: Since losing to Breidis Prescott (20-0, 18 KOs) by a 1st round TKO in September, lightweight contender Amir Khan (19-1, 15 KOs) has taken a tremendous amount of heat from boxing fans, a lot of whom have given up on him, seeing him as too fragile-chinned to become a champion in the lightweight division. Khan, 22, though, still has designs on avenging his defeat to Prescott, saying to The Sun “the fight will happen in the future again… and I will beat him technically and with my brains this time.”

Breidis Prescott: Is He Capable Of Winning a Title?

prescott4543452.jpgBy Nate Anderson: Using power punches consisting mostly of powerful left hooks, the tall Colombian knockout artist Breidis Prescott (20-0, 18 KOs) put away the Amir Khan (18-1, 14 KOs) hype machine with a strong statement by knocking him down twice and taking him out in the 1st round last Saturday night at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester.

The look on Khan’s face as he laid there on the canvas, a combination of bewilderment at what had just happened to him and a drunken-like stupor that Prescott had put him after hitting him with a half power shots to the head. The fact that it only took 54 seconds and a handful of punches to accomplish that seemed to suggest one of two things: either Khan is a glass-jawed fighter who isn’t suited for professional boxing or Prescott hits much harder than most people give him credit for.

Prescott Destroys Khan

prescott334.jpgBy Michael Lieberman: I don’t mean to gloat or anything but I knew this way going to happen. In fact, I predicted that the Colombian knockout artist Breidis Prescott (20-0, 18 KOs) would knock Amir Khan (18-0, 14 KOs) as soon as the fight was signed months ago. I just didn’t think it would be so gosh darned quick with the fighting being stopped in the 1st round. I guess that goes to show you that if a fighter has a glass chin, you got to protect them fighters like the hard-punching Prescott. Khan, 21, didn’t look good even as he was entering the ring. He looked nervous, as if he had gotten himself into something that he was ill prepared for.

You can say that again. Prescott was in a whole different class than Khan, which became abundantly class in the opening seconds of the bout when Prescott staggered Khan with a simple left jab. After getting hit, Khan’s legs turned rubbery for a second and I thought he was about to do chicken dance.
