Audley: Deontay is the most gifted athlete in the heavyweight division

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Former 2000 Olympic Gold medalist Audley Harrison (31-6, 23 KO’s) sees himself getting a top 10 ranking and a title shot against one of the Klitschko brothers if he can get past 6’7” Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) tomorrow night at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, UK.

That obviously isn’t going to happen even if Audley were to pull off an upset. The Klitschkos aren’t going to fight him because he’s been beaten too many times and there would be too much flak if they were to fight him just off of a win over Deontay.

It’s going to take a lot more than a win over Deontay for the 41-year-old Audley to get a title shot, I hate to say.

Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah Preview: Time to back up the Tweets

garcia111(Photo credit: Casino/Showtime) By Peter Wells: Danny Garcia and Zab Judah have for the last six months or so expressed their mutual dislike of each other in no more than 140 characters at a time, until Saturday 27th April when the tweeting stops, and the fighting begins. For those of you who have not witnessed the “twitter war” between the two fighters, then you are most probably wondering why this fight is receiving so much attention from fans.

The two boxers online squabbling and the near brawl between the two camps has quite simply sold the fight. Suddenly fight fans have gone from “couldn’t care less” to having a rather childish excitement that you usually get at school when you hear a fight is happening on the playground at lunch time.

Wilder vs. Harrison: Is this really a step up for Deontay?

audley2122By Thomas Cowan: This Saturday, highly rated American Deontay Wilder faces British heavyweight Audley Harrison in what is being billed as a step-up fight. Wilder’s had 27 fights and has knocked out every opponent inside 4 rounds. Unfortunately, all those have been dreadful but people are still already comparing Wilder to George Foreman. Now the fight against Harrison is being billed as the fight he finally steps up. But is it really a step up?

Let me start by saying I’m not a Wilder “hater”, as he likes to say. I don’t hate any fighter and I have no time or respect for fans and writers that clearly hate a certain fighter just because of his nationality or fighting style. I just find it frustrating that there can be so much hype about a fighter who hasn’t faced a single contender. He may well be the next heavyweight champion but he also may well be out of his depth against anyone decent, we just don’t know.

Can Murray beat Martinez?

murray11(Photos Courtesy HBO/Will Hart) By Thomas Cowan: This Saturday, British middleweight Martin Murray faces WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Martinez hasn’t fought in Argentina for 11 years and the crowd is expected to exceed 40,000.

The Argentinian president is expected to attend which shows how highly Martinez is regarded in his homeland. Martinez was voted to most popular sportsman in Argentina ahead of soccer star Lionel Messi and anyone who knows anything about soccer will know that’s a big deal.

The nationality of Martinez’s opponent is definitely no coincidence. As soon as it was announced that he’d be fighting in Argentina, I knew he would pick Murray as his opponent.

Sergio Martinez vs Martin Murray: Murray looks to spoil Maravilla’s homecoming

martinez11(Photos Courtesy HBO/Will Hart) By Peter Wells: It has been 11 long years, and many, many wins and titles since Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez fought in the country that raised him. That night Francisco Antonio Mora was the opponent and no one in the same building as Sergio would have had the slightest clue of what greatness Martinez would achieve in the that time before returning to his homeland. He left Argentina an unknown novice and he returns a national hero. Martinez’s status is so large in Argentina he is now even bigger in his homeland than football superstar Lionel Messi.

So who better to take on the daunting task than the un-nerved and quietly confident Englishman, Martin Murray. Murray is relishing the opportunity and joins a trio of Englishmen to face the Middleweights best. Murray hopes though that he will not suffer the same fate as his fellow countrymen (Darren Barker was stopped in the 11th and Matthew Macklin was pulled out at the end of the 11th). Murray is a huge, and I mean HUGE underdog going into tomorrow night, but the odds didn’t favour him much better when he set foot in Felix Sturm’s homeland of Germany in December 2011.

Amir Khan vs Julio Diaz Preview: Khan’s rebuilding continues with return to the UK

1346By Peter Wells: No one ever said filling ones potential would be easy, and when one hits a roadblock or two it takes a person of un-teachable determination and will power to fulfil that promise which has been shifted upon ones shoulders. So when Amir Khan suffered defeat number three it would take someone with that incredible will power to bounce back and reach the heights that he was expected to reach.

Yet another change in trainer and Khan is set to go again. So here we go. Take four! Now with Virgil Hunter in Khan’s corner, the Bolton born Olympic Silver medallist will take to the ring for the second time since Danny Garcia took Khan out in 4 explosive rounds. First up was the undersized and over matched Carlos Molina (not the Carlos Molina competing at 154lbs), whom was outclassed for 10 rounds before his corner decided enough was enough.

A Look Forward to This Weeks Boxing

clip_image006By Shane Newsome: With again another packed schedule on both sides of the Atlantic we have busy cards in UK, USA but also action from Argentina and Germany with fights not to be missed, so let’s take a look at what we have in store.

First we go to Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK and the main event Amir Khan (27-3) vs Julio Diaz (40-7-1) this fight should just be another stepping stone for the 26 year-old Brit even a Diaz in his absolute prime should be easy work for someone as skilled as Khan look for him to get Julio out of there around the mid-late rounds anything else and maybe Khan will deserve the criticism he will most definitely receive, if he does win this fight in easy fashion like expected you would hope he would now step back up to world level and try and avenge on of his recent defeats like he has talked about, we will soon see.

Broner: Malignaggi won’t be helped fighting at home in New York

broner545By Allan Fox: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) will be moving up in weight two divisions on June 22nd to fight WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) in Malignaggi’s own hometown in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center.

Broner isn’t bothered at all that he’ll be fighting in front of a large pro-Malignaggi audience on June 22nd when he ventures into the Barclays Center. Broner sees his own talent being more than enough for him to get either a KO or a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision victory in this fight.

Broner said: “I don’t care where the fight is. I’ll fight him in a closet, his backyard, my backyard, the Barclays Center, at a barbecue. It don’t really matter to me. Being in his hometown ain’t gonna help him when I start beating his a**.”

Quillin wants unification bout after Guerrero fight

quillin1(Tom Casino/Showtime) By Eric Thomas: WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (28-0, 20 KO’s) is targeting the other 160 pound champions if he can get past challenger Fernando Guerrero (25-1, 19 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Quillin says he wants WBC champ Sergio Martinez, IBF champ Daniel Geale or WBA champ Gennady Golovkin. Of those three only Golovkin has serious interested in facing Quillin, but it’s highly unlikely that Quillin will say yes to this fight, even though he mentioned him as someone he’d be interested in facing.

Quillin has already had opportunities to fight Golovkin, but has instead looked for safer alternatives. Quillin has sparred with Golovkin in the past and the rumors are that Golovkin handled him pretty easily. It’s just sparring, of course, but when you get totally dominated in sparring it does suggest that there are some skill differences between the two of them.
