Boxing’s Intangibles: Belief

By Mohummad Humza Elahi: (Twitter: @MHE_1985) When discussing the nature of a fighter, the casual approach, which is often the easiest, is to focus on the attributes we see; speed, strength, technique, footwork and so on. But when two competitors are matched equally in these departments, we draw from these men and women the qualities that could provide the edge in their bout, those elusive intangibles.

Haye sends contract to Fury

haye444555By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) has reportedly sent a fight contract over to unbeaten heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 14 KO’s), and Fury says he’s going to sign it this Monday so that the two of them can finally face each other.

Fury said on his twitter “I’ll fight Haye tomorrow. I’ll sign the contract first thing Monday morning if Haye is willing. He can have it all his own way. Let’s get going.”

The fight will potentially give each fighter 5 million pounds for the bout, which is pretty incredible given that neither fighter is a champion. Fury likely never will be unless he improves dramatically from his performance last April against former cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham.

The Garden, smoke-filled air, with fedoras adorning the scenery and flashbulb cameras catching all of the action in the ring. It was a special time for sports as a whole.

If The Best Hadn’t Fought The Best And If The Best Don’t Fight The Best

By Adrian Alvarez Jr.: I just read an article today by Dallas Oryiuk about Danny “Swift” Garcia possibly ducking or being afraid of Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse. I’m not going to get into to much detail on whether he is or not, but what I will say is I’m a huge Boxing fan and a fan of both fighters I’ve rooted for Garcia in all of his bouts and have followed him more but I wanted Lucas to win in his fight against Peterson and have great respect for him.

For his latest title, he jumped up two divisions to challenge for Paulie Malignaggi’s title in the New Yorkers backyard, the Barclays Center, Brooklyn. His audacity was awarded with a split decision victory.

The Forgotten Nicolino Locche

By Jose Muradas: I stumbled on the name while I was researching material for a Carlos Monzon article. I found Nicolino Locche instead. Rarely, do you see a fighter who could skirt punches and move in and out of combinations without being touched. I know there is Pernell Whitaker, Willie Pep, and Floyd Mayweather. Those fighters come to mind when you think superior defense.
