Hank Lundy W UD Ajose Olusegun: Review

lundy55By Peter Wells (twitter- @boxingbrains): For Ajose Olusegun last night was far, far from the way himself and his team had envisioned the fight going. Ajose wasn’t the only one surprised, as almost all boxing fans believed that Ajose would come out on top, but what took place was far too similar to the beating Ajose took at the hands of Lucas Matthysse rather than the beatings Ajose was offering out to his opponents at a lower level.

While Lundy’s performance was exceptional, Ajose’s lacked in almost all departments. There was little snap in his punches and it seemed after the 5th round he lost all confidence in his ability to keep Lundy off him. Sadly it seems that inactivity and the beating at the hands of Lucas Matthysse has finally caught up with the 33 year old boxer.

Lundy easily beats Olusegun by 10 round decision

lundy12By Jim Dower: Hank Lundy (23-3-1, 11 KO’s) ended a two-fight losing streak by dominating Ajose Olusegun (31-2, 14 KO’s) in beating him by a surprising lopsided 10 round unanimous decision on Friday night at the Rockingham Park, in Salem, New Hampshire, USA. The final judges’ scores were 100-90, 98-92 and 98-92.

The 100-90 score wasn’t realistic to what happened in the ring tonight. It was a closer than that. Lundy definitely won, but he certainly didn’t win every round of the fight either.

After the fight, Lundy said “I want [Lucas] Matthysse.”

Haye vs Fury: The Great British Battle

haye#5By Gary Webster: The biggest prize in world sport has been lost, undervalued and under appreciated for as long as any casual fan of the ”the sweet science” can care to remember. Heavyweight boxing was a prestige, a mantle in which all tradesman, of all courses aspired to test or regard themselves against.

II was at benchmark not only of a persons talent, but their desire to test themselves to the limit in what is ”the hurt game”.

The heavyweight division in Britain, once again has the boxing purists and carefree fans buzzing with the eagerly anticipated dust up of David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) vs Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) pitched in a battle of what we would call a dire straights. All credit to Mark Knofler for his supreme gift.

Ajose Olusegun vs Hank Lundy Preview

By Peter Wells (twitter- @boxingbrains): Tonight at the Rockingham Park in New Hampshire, Hank Lundy attempts to snap his 2 fight losing streak when he takes on British-Nigerian Ajose Olusegun. The Philadelphian may have lost his way some what in recent fights but his resume offers enough to suggest that the 29 year old cannot be considered as an easy opponent for Ajose.

Olusegun Ajose and Hank Lundy fight on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights on 7/19

lundy453By Allan Fox: Hank Lundy (22-3-1, 11 KO’s) will be trying to halt his 2-fight losing streak this Friday night against light welterweight contender Ajose Olusegun (31-1, 14 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Rockingham Park, Salem, in New Hampshire, USA.

Just last year, 29-year-old Lundy had been trying to get a fight against WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner, but he was ignored by him. Lundy has since lost his last two fights against Raymundo Beltran and Viktor Postol.

There’s no change of Lundy getting a fight against Broner now, if there ever was one. Lundy is now fighting at light welterweight, but he didn’t look good in his first fight at that weight against Postol last March.

Chavez Jr. to face Vera at 168 on September 7th in Los Angeles, California

chavez922By Dan Ambrose: Tickets for the September 7th fight between former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) and #1 WBO, Brian Vera (23-6, 14 KOs) are going on sale this Friday, July 19th, for their September 7th fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Dan Rafael is reporting that the fight will be staged at 168 lbs. in order to make it easy for Chavez Jr. to make weight, as he’s been out of the ring since last year when he was beaten by Sergio Martinez by a 12 round unanimous decision.

Chavez Jr. has put on a great deal of weight in the time out of the ring and there are questions whether he can even make 168 at this point even with drastic dehydrating to lose 20+ pounds.

Lee Selby – Rising Star passes Toughest Test

selby11By Mohummad Humza Elahi: Firstly, this is a response to Scott Gilfoid’s article because even though it was clearly written to incite a reaction, I believe the hyperbole is completely unjustified. Lee Selby (now 16-1, 6 KO’s) passed his toughest test last night against #4 WBC Viorel Simion (now (16-1, 7 KO’s) to capture the Intercontinental version of the featherweight belt in front of a great crowd in Hull. Firstly, let me point something out. Both fighters wake up today with practically identical records, what separates them is an extra KO for Simion and a 5 year advantage for Selby.

This alone should tell you all you need to know about where Selby currently lies in terms of both his own progression and his standing in the world rankings. The fight itself was a scrappy one for Selby; he was put under constant pressure and got tagged with more than a few punches, especially in the later rounds. However, the first 6 rounds where a shutout and he was frustrating Simion with good movement and slipping whilst trying to keep him at bay with the jab.

Selby decisions Simion, but struggles and looks poor

selby544By Scott Gilfoid: Lee Selby (16-1, 6 KO’s) came down to earth tonight in winning a closer than expected 12 round unanimous decision over WBC International featherweight champion Viorel Simion (16-1, 7 KO’s) on the undercard of the Kell Brook vs. Carson Jones fight at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The final judges had the fight scored 118-110, 115-113 and 116-112. I agreed with the 115-113 score. It was a very, very close fight.

Selby really fell apart in the last four rounds of the fight, and looked like he was hurt in the 11th and not competitive in the 12th. Simion, 31, had a better engine and he really wore Selby down with his relentless pressure.
