Trout: Canelo needs to rough Mayweather up

canelo6By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout thinks WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) is going to have to change his fighting style if he wants to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) in their fight on September 14th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Trout thinks Canelo is going to have to get physical and throw more punches than he’s done in the past to get the win.

Trout said to Fighthype “If he [Canelo] can be busy and try to bully Mayweather, he’ll have a better chance of success.”

Trout vs. Lara not being added to Mayweather-Canelo card

trout888By Dan Ambrose: If you were hoping to see former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout vs. Erislandy Lara on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight card on September 14th, you can forget it. It’s not happening, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. He’s saying that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer isn’t considering that fight for the Mayweather-Canelo undercard.

Rafael said in his chat today, “That fight [Trout-Lara] is not being added to the card, according to Richard Schaefer. He told me it is not even a fight for which he has any discussion for whatsoever with either side. He said it merely one fight that was thought up at the office but there has been no real conversation about making it at this point.”

Trout vs. Lara on Mayweather-Canelo undercard on 9/14

lara5By Dan Ambrose: Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) vs. Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) is being talked about for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez card on September 14th. It’s still not a done deal, but it’s a possibility as either the co-feature or the third fight below the main event if Golden Boy Promotions is able is able to get the Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse on the card.

If they can get that fight, and that’s a big if, that fight will be the co-feature bout. The Trout-Lara fight is a good one, but not nearly as good as the Garcia-Matthysse bout.

Trout should arguably be still undefeated after losing to Canelo by a 12 round unanimous decision last April. If you Canelo’s fans, they think Trout lost the fight, but if you ask a lot of people without a preference about the fight, a lot of them are saying that Trout won the fight.

Lara wants to face Austin Trout on Mayweather-Canelo card

lara455By Dan Ambrose: Interim WBA World light middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) is hoping to face former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight card on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Trout has already said he’s interested in facing Lara and he’s very interested in fighting on the Mayweather-Canelo card. By facing Lara and beating him, Trout will be putting himself in the best position to get a rematch against Canelo.

Trout was beaten by Canelo last April by a 12 round unanimous decision in a fight that many boxing fans had Trout as the winner or least deserving of a draw.

trout11By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA light middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) is hoping to get a high profile spot on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight card on September 14th if possible. Would Gonzalez have lost to Burns with open scoring that Canelo-Trout had?

gonzalez54By Dan Ambrose: In watching last Saturday’s fight between WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns and Jose Gonzalez, it was pretty sad to see the Puerto Rican fighter Gonzalez quitting on his stool after the 9th round with a sizable 3-round lead on all of the scorecards.

Later after the fight, Gonzalez that he would have never quit had he known that he was ahead that much in the fight. Gonzalez thought the fight was extremely close, and that was why he chose to quit.

Having seen how WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez benefited greatly with the open scoring for his recent win over WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout last month in San Antonio, Texas, I wonder if Gonzalez would have quit on his stool if he had known how much of a lead he had after 8 rounds.

Austin Trout seeks a rematch with Canelo Alvarez

trout011By Amos: Boxing fans had the pleasure to witness the highly anticipated WBC & WBA Junior Middleweight unification bout between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) and Austin “No Doubt” Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s). It was the fight which declared Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as the undisputed champion of the division.

However, after watching the fight, Austin Trout acknowledges he needed to do much, much more in order to decisively win the fight. Trout believed he would be able to out-box Canelo and completely dominate the fight to win a “lopsided decision.” However, Canelo surprised the boxing public and even Trout with an improved defense and footwork which had not been seen before. Canelo did not merely come forward and had a much different game plan than some writers thought he would have.

A Look Back On Last Weeks Boxing

fury54By Shane Newsome: With a heavy schedule of fights on both sides of the pond its easy for a fight or a whole fight card to have been missed by a casual boxing fan recently and could be forgiven, and if this is the site you use for all you boxing news (which for a lot of people that may be the case) then its too easy to get drawn in by a bias writers opinion of a fight.

Starting in Blackpool, Lancashire, UK and the main event on this card between Brian Rose (23-1-1) and Joachim Alcine (33-4-1) here was a case of a European level fighter in Brian Rose attempting to begin to build a bridge towards world level and for this he picked a once formidable opponent in former WBA Light-Middleweight Champion Joachim Alcine, Rose acquitted himself well in a relatively uneventful (in comparison to the other fights on the night) fight and walked away with a win via a 12th round TKO.

Austin Trout and Steve Cunningham: Fantastic Losers

trout888By Michael Byrne: Austin Trout and Steve Cunningham were both on the losing side on Saturday night, with Trout losing his ‘0’ and USS finding himself glued to the canvas. However, they can both draw some big positives from their losses. Both men spoke well in their ring interviews after their defeats: Trout was incredibly humble, and Cunningham was honest and accepting.

Trout could have complained about the ‘hometown’ judging, especially the 118-109 verdict, but instead decided to accept his defeat and praise Canelo. Presumably, he is not sat at home looking for a ‘man-in-the-hat’ on the replays. Cunningham could have complained about Tyson Fury being anything but gentlemanly, but instead managed to make Fury look even more dishonorable by showing how a gentleman really should act.
