Weights: Abraham vs. Lihaug & De Carolis vs. Zeuge

1-abraham

By Jeff Aranow: Former two division world champion Arthur Abraham (44-5, 28 KOs) weighed in at 168 pounds for his 12 round fight against #15 WBO Tim-Robin Lihaug (15-1, 8 KOs) for their fight on Saturday night at the Max-Schmeling-Halle, in Berlin, Germany. The 23-year-old Lihaug weighed in at 167.6lbs.

This is supposed to be a mismatch, but it’s hard to tell for sure because Abraham is starting to get long in the tooth at 36. Abraham was easily beaten in his last fight against Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez last April in a losing a 12 round unanimous decision. Ramirez, 24, is a good fighter, but he’s not as good as he looked in that fight.

Arthur Abraham to fight on July 16 in Berlin, Germany

ramirez9999By Jeff Aranow: 36-year-old former two division world champion Arthur Abraham (44-5, 29 KOs) will be looking to rebuild his career starting next July on the 16th against an opponent still to be determined at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, Germany.

Abraham recently lost his WBO 168lb title last April against the taller, faster and younger 6’2” Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight was so one-sided that you could make a case that Abraham deserved only one round of the fight. He was totally outclassed by the 24-year-old Ramirez.

Gilberto Ramirez: I am ready for anyone, even Golovkin

ramirez94By Piotr Slabonski: Undefeated #1 WBO Gilberto Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) fulfilled the expectations placed in him and won by a 12 round unanimous decision against hard hitting WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-5, 29 KOs), becoming the first Mexican champion in the history of super middleweight last Saturday night at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now “Zurdo” counting on even greater challenges.

– I showed him the Mexican school of boxing. He is very, very strong puncher, but he could not deal with me moving around the ring. After second part of the fight I already knew I would win. I wanted to do something historic, and I did it – said the new WBO champion after the triumph at the gala Manny Pacquiao – Tim Bradley III in Las Vegas.

Can Arum get Golovkin to fight Gilberto Ramirez?

ramirez9999By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) did his job last Saturday night in schooling an old, slow and small WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-5, 29 KOs) in defeating him by a 12 round unanimous decision to take his title in front of a large crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ramirez’s promoter Bob Arum is very interested in having Ramirez fight undefeated middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) if the Kazakhstan fighter is willing to move up to 168 and fight Ramirez at the full weight for the super middleweight division.

Gilberto Ramirez defeats Arthur Abraham, wins WBO title

ramirez445By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated #1 WBO Gilberto “Zurdo’ Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) won a surprisingly easy 12 round unanimous decision victory over WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-5, 29 KOs) to become the first Mexican to win the 168lb world title in their fight on HBO Boxing PPV from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The final judges’ scores were an identical 120-108, 120-108 and 120-108.

I didn’t agree with those scores. I had Abraham winning three rounds in the fight. The judges didn’t give Abraham much credit. However, it was a very one-sided fight though, as the 6’2 ½” Ramirez was simply too tall for the shorter, older 5’9” Abraham.

Weights: Pacquiao 145.5, Bradley 146.5

pac644By Jim Dower: Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) made weight on Friday for his third fight against Tim Bradley (33-1-1, 13 KOs) for this Saturday night on HBO pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum and trainer Freddie Roach have been talking up a fight between Pacquiao and WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the past two weeks. They’ve been talking more about Canelo vs. Pacquiao than the Bradley fight. It gives one the impression that Canelo’s name has been used to help attract interest/pay-per-view buys for the Pacquiao-Bradley 3 fight. It’s proven that if boxing fans think a much bigger fight is just over the horizon, they’ll be more interested in paying to see a less than appealing fight like this Saturday’s contest because Pacquiao and Bradley.

Pacquiao weighed in at 145.5 pounds, and looked in great shape if not small for the welterweight division. Bradley, who previously fought at light welterweight, weighed in just a little heavier than Pacquiao at 146.5lbs.

Arum already making plans for Gilberto Ramirez’s first title defense

arum92By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is so optimistic about his fighter Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez’s chance of beating WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs) this Saturday night, he’s already looking for an opponent for Ramirez’s first defense of the WBO 168lb title for his next planned fight this summer on July 23 on the undercard of WBO 140lb champion Terence Crawford’s next fight on HBO Championship Boxing.

Arum wants to match Ramirez against his fighter #3 WBO Jesse Hart. It’s got to be tough for Abraham, 36, to be coming into Las Vegas to fight on a Top Rank card against a Top Rank fighter in 24-year-old Ramirez, who Arum is hoping to turn into one of his new big money stars. It could be tough on Abraham to try and win a decision in this fight. He realizes what he’s up against and he plans on knocking Ramirez out.
