Maidana didn’t look all that bad against Corley – He still wipes out Khan

By Scott Gilfoid: After hearing a lot about how bad Marcos Maidana was supposed to be against DeMarcus Corley last weekend, I expected utter garbage from Maidana when I finally got the chance to see the fight. But I was frankly impressed with him. Maidana showed excellent power throughout the fight and should have won the easier than he did if the referee had taken points away from Corley for his constant fouls. I saw a lot of ugly fouling form Corley, such as leading his head, hitting on the break, grabbing Maidana in a head lock and then tagging him in the face.

Will Khan fight Maidana now or will he come up with excuses?

By Dan Ambrose: WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) did his part in making a fight with WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) happen last Saturday night by defeating DeMarcus Corley (37-14-1, 22 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Estadio Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.

Maidana looks awful in beating Corley – So will Khan fight Maidana now?

By William Mackay: If there ever was a time where I think WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan might choose to fight WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s), I think this may be the occasion. Maidana fought and defeated former WBO light welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley (37-14-1, 22 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Estadio Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina. This was not a fight where Maidana looked good. Indeed, Maidana looked like the same fighter that was beaten by Andriy Kotelnik last year. In other words, Maidana looked terrible.

Khan vs. Maidana prediction- If it happens

by Ronnie Jordan: After watching World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana’s fights against Victor Cayo and Victor Ortiz its clear to me that Amir khan could and should box the hell out of Maidana. If he doesn’t beat him by a lop sided 12 round decision then he’ll knock him out in the mid to late rounds. Maidana has the hardest punch in the light welterweight division but he also has a poor defence. He’s new to the sport and the lack of technical training is clear to see. His foot work is terrible, he has very little head movement and he’s so wide open when he throws his hooks you could telegraph your punch 10 minutes beforehand and still land.

Is Khan already looking for excuses not to fight Maidana?

Image: Is Khan already looking for excuses not to fight Maidana?By William Mackay: Recently, World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) talked about WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) wanting too much money to fight him. I thought something was fishy there, because this was the exact same thing that Khan said about Michael Katsidis in the past. Now Khan is saying the same thing about Maidana and it smells like Khan is looking for a reason not to have to take that fight. Maidana came out today in an interview at Fightnews.com, and said that he and his promoters haven’t even started any negotiations with Khan.

Schaefer says Juan Manuel Marquez will be going after Katsidis next, not Khan

Image: Schaefer says Juan Manuel Marquez will be going after Katsidis next, not KhanBy William Mackay: It’s looking now like WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s) will be sticking with his own division for awhile to defend his titles against World Boxing Organization lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KO’s) next instead of moving up in weight to take on World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s), according to the latest boxing news from Dan Rafael. This obviously isn’t going to please Khan, because he had been hoping to take on the smaller Marquez and try to build a quick name for himself by beating the smaller, older, slower Mexican boxing legend.

Schaefer says Khan or Katsidis are next for Marquez and then maybe Erik Morales

By William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says that either World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) or WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KO’s) are going to be next for WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s), according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Schaefer says “The two most logical opponents [for Marquez] are Khan or Katsidis. It depends on the weight he [Marquez] wants to fight at.” Marquez, 36, would be asking a lot of himself to move up to 140 and face the lanky 5’10” Khan.

Maidana vs. Corley on Saturday: Marco says that Khan has been running scared of him

By William Mackay: World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) will be fighting former WBO light welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley (37-13-1, 22 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Estadio Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina. This will be the 27-year-old Maidana’s first fight in five months since stopping the tough light welterweight contender Victor Cayo in the 6th round in March of this year. Maidana is using the fight against the 36-year-old Corley as a stay busy fight to sharpen his skills for one of the light welterweight champions, preferably WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s).

Khan says he wants Maidana next and then the Bradley vs. Alexander winner

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) now seems to be changing his tune from wanting a fight against WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez on December 11th to now talking about wanting to fight WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) next in December, according to boxing news from the 23-year-old Khan’s Twitter page.
