Mayweather, the man who cried Arum

floyd5By Victor Candelario: There are no more excuses for the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao fight not happening. It is not Manny’s fault, it is not Arum’s fault, it is not the money’s fault, nor is it the drug testings fault.

The only person left to blame is Floyd “Money” Mayweather (47-0 26 KO’s) and its sad because as a fan of boxing I firmly believe Floyd wins a decision should they meet. But at this point in time I’m sick and tired of Floyd fan boys coming to his defense simply because it has become obvious Floyd is a coward. How can he not fight his Joe Frazier? His Roberto Duran and still be considered great when his career is over?

Mayweather, the fans made you rich now repay us

mayweather22By Victor Candelario: Throughout Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr’s (47-0-0 26 KO’s) career, Floyd fans, Boxing fans, and even casual boxing fans (who don’t follow the sport as religiously as so many of us do) have paid Mayweather large sums of money to watch him fight. Some of us paid to watch him win, some of us paid to watch him lose, and some of us paid because what we were witnessing was one of the best fighters of this generation neutralize even some of the better offensive fighters in the sport, and realistically making it look pretty easy.

Fast forward to today, Mayweather regularly topping various lists as the highest paid athlete. Flaunting his vast amounts of wealth on social media sites, his cars, his mansions, his gambling endeavors, his watches, and his designer shades. While continuing to dominate the sport, at the highest level, remaining #1 on pretty much all pound for pound lists, and still raking in the big bucks from people who pay his $70 pay-per-view fee to watch him fight.

Three fights I’d like to see other than Mayweather/Pacquiao Pt. 1

golovkin000By Victor Candelario: Don’t me wrong me and boxing fans alike would love to see Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) take on the #1 pound for pound boxer in the sport Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr (47-0-0 26 KOs) and see if he can hand Floyd the first loss of his career but lets be realistic, the fight has lost a ton of its luster. Both fighters have showed in recent fights to be well past there primes, and if the fight were to occur I can see a ton of excuses as to why Floyd or Pacquiao were defeated coming from fans.

Just to name the two most common arguments that would be made, Floyd fans would say Floyd lost because he was past his prime , and Manny fans would say Manny was past his prime should he lose. So neither fighter at this point would get the same credit for defeating the other as they would have 7 years ago, when they were both at the top of the sport, at there best.

Danny Garcia: Put up, or shut up

garcia14By Victor Candelario The Puerto Rican Philadelphia native slugger Danny “Swift” Garcia (29-0-0, 17 KOs)  has a possible showdown with Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) looming after Pacquiao’s camp expressed interest in meeting Garcia in the near future after Pacquiao’s showdown with Chris Algieri. But after Garcia’s last 2 outings in the ring it has become clear as day, Danny Garcia needs to step up.

Garcia faced 9th ranked light welterweight in the world Mauricio Herrera (21-4-0, 7 KOs) in a twelve rounder in Puerto Rico and was given a gift from the heavens because it was clear to everyone watching, Garcia was frustrated, Garcia was always a step behind, and Garcia had been exposed.

Floyd Mayweather: Can’t beat him, join him

floyd74By Victor Candelario: Since the age of 10 I distinctly remember watching Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26 KOs) fights and praying for every fighter that stepped in front of him to beat him. The closest thing we got to Floyd losing was Jose Luis Castillo, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto and Marcos Maidana, but let’s face it, they lost.

They had their moments where they made Floyd look uncomfortable but as all great fighters do; Mayweather adjusted and cruised to decisions in all 4 of those fights. He absolutely destroyed a prime Diego Corrales, and he made Ricky Hatton look like an old man at the age of 28. Mayweather absolutely embarrassed Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (though I felt like Canelo’s game plan to outbox Floyd was a horrible one and I don’t know what his corner was thinking).

Gennady Golovkin: Untried, Unproven, Untested

golovkin97464By Victor Candelario: Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) has burst onto the boxing scene knocking out 90% of all opposition he has faced thus far. While boxing fans seem to believe the hype surrounding Golovkin, I haven’t yet welcomed GGG with open arms.

In my eyes he remains Untried, Unproven, & Untested. After watching several of his past fights I feel as though he has been put in the ring with outmatched, undersized opponents, who in my opinion, do not deserve to be in the ring against Golovkin.

For those who don’t know, the past 5 fighters he has faced is Daniel Geale, Osumanu Adama, Curtis Stevens, Matthew Macklin, and Nobuhiro Ishida. All of them have suffered 3 or more defeats, with Ishida suffering 9 losses in his boxing career.
