Boxing vs. Money

floyd#20By Mark Colleti: I understand that we all need to make a living. A also understand that boxing is a very dangerous sport. But somehow it has gotten to the point that money is taking over boxing. Is it the way it’s supposed to be?

The question of who is going to make more money on their PPV sales is not the right question. I mean, because more people purchased my PPV, does that mean I am the best?

Right now Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr is going to pick his opponent for his May fight. It’s either going to be Marcos Maidana or Amir Khan. I realize that boxing is a business, but how does someone’s PPV sales define him?

pac99By Mark Colleti: Ever since Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced his 6 fight deal with Showtime, it’s been the Floyd Mayweather show. Now that he is done and destroyed Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the question remains: Who’s next?

How about Manny Pacquiao.

Now, I know that the negotiations failed before, (Yes it’s Pacquiao’s fault. Yes it is also Mayweather’s fault. Yes, blame Bob Arum too….) but instead of looking at the past, let’s look at the future.

Mayweather vs. Canelo: Boxer vs. Fighter

canelo900By Mark Colleti: This year we’ve seen some good boxing, and we’ve seen some really good fights. I can appreciate a war where two fighter exchange and give it their all, I mean, who doesn’t?

Are you going to tell me you did not enjoy Brandon Rios vs. Mike Alvarado, Ruslan Provodnikov vs. Tim Bradley, Josesito Lopez vs. Marcos Maidana and Mickey Ward vs. Arturo Gatti?

I must admit, watching a good fight is more entertaining than watching a boxing match. I know the sport is called boxing and not MMA, but let’s be honest, after watching a good fight; you just want to watch it again.
