Manny Pacquiao: The One to beat for Mayweather

pac99By Mark Colleti: Ever since Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced his 6 fight deal with Showtime, it’s been the Floyd Mayweather show. Now that he is done and destroyed Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the question remains: Who’s next?

How about Manny Pacquiao.

Now, I know that the negotiations failed before, (Yes it’s Pacquiao’s fault. Yes it is also Mayweather’s fault. Yes, blame Bob Arum too….) but instead of looking at the past, let’s look at the future.

In almost every interview, they always ask Mayweather about Pacquiao and vice versa. This will not change until we get an answer to who is better. Not on paper, but in the ring. In the future, when you will talk about Mayweather, you will mention Pacquiao and how the fight did not occur and there will always be a question mark on both their legacies.

I am not saying that Mayweather needs Pacquiao, but, I am not saying that he doesn’t. What I will say is that the fans need to know who would win in the ring, and not on paper.

Its remarkable how many people order and watch his PPV’s. Even more incredible is that some people pay 70$ hoping to watch him lose. And he never does. People talk about Mayweather’s marketing ability. I mean, to be able to build up Robert Guerrero and make me believe that he had a chance to win is genius. Of course, for Pacquiao, he would not need to do all that, the fights sells itself.

The expression laughing all the way to the bank comes to mind when thinking of Money Mayweather. He may be getting a record high payday fighting Canelo. In my opinion, his earnings are another thing people are going to remember about his legacy.

Along with the fact that he would have made even more money by just fighting Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao. The two fight losing streak Pacquiao. The has-been, as Mayweather once referred him to. Talk about easy money, by just beating Manny Pacquiao, Floyd would leave no doubt in anyone’s mind of who is the best ever.

I am not really sure of the new reason that Mayweather has now to refuse the Manny Pacquiao fight, but I am certain that Mayweather would beat him by UD. Why not do it now before it’s too late. If not for your legacy, do it for the fans.

Maybe we could see Mayweather retire undefeated. Maybe he will be remembered as the best ever. Or maybe, after he retires and has gran kids, one of the biggest things people will talk about when mentioning him will be the question of why he never fought Manny Pacquiao, and he will be haunted by his decisions of the past.
