Will the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight take place in 2015?

pac45By Idris Morrey: The much anticipated ring fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and the Philippine’s finest Manny Pacquiao could soon be taking place.

Social networks are now playing host to increasing verbal and graphical illustrations either in praise or purely demeaning either of these phenomenal fighters. It was all quiet until recently When Manny Pacquiao was matched with little known Chris Algieri and somehow Mayweather’s name became their selling point.

Finally, a sign that Mayweather could be working with Top Rank Again

floyd11233By Idris Morrey: Recently, WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KO’s) declared he has a special opponent in mind for the fans after the September 13 rematch with Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs). The pound for pound long reigning champion called it a surprise to mark on the calenders and fans have not stopped guessing. Media houses, popular blogs and our very own Boxing News 24 paraded possible names for the May 2014 showdown but it all pointed at Bob Arums’ stable of Top Rank.

A photo circulating around the social media today could be confirming our guesses. A Money team labelled van was spotted outside Top Rank gym. It is now clear that Mayweather Promotions and Bob Arum of Top Rank could be talking business again. And what a good reunion it could be for both of these boxing powerhouses who posses arguably the best boxers in the sport right now.

Dela Hoya may not agree to a Canelo-Golovkin Fight

canelo14By Idris Morrey: The kind of talent waiting to face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is growing steadily by the day. Names are coming up and they have convincing records to deserve a match-up with the hard hitting Mexican.

The worrying bit is whether Canelo Alvarez’s promoter and Golden boy president Oscar Dela Hoya will really accept to let lose one of his from from the stable to face the dangerous middleweight fighters. From earlier on, it was expressed during the All Access Showtime episodes that De La Hoya was against Canelo fighting the Cuban Boxer Erislandy Lara. From his style, the left- handed Lara has been a dreaded fighter. Oscar publicly confessed that he did not want Canelo to face the Cuban. In their recent fight, it became evident that Dela Hoya’s fear was real from the beginning

Mayweather and Lara’s styles trouble Canelo

lara7By Idris Morrey: The recent fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs) and Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12 KOs) has sparked debates not only on the controversy surrounding the judging but also on fighting styles last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo stated clearly that he did not come to compete in a marathon and he expected his opponent to stand toe-to-toe for the bout. Alvarez seem to have learned little from the Floyd Mayweather Jr schooling as his dismal display showed he had problems finding Lara last night.

Mayweather Jr. should consider moving up in weight for his September fight

floyd77777By Idris Morrey: Its been rough but welterweight is no more a competitive weight class for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) to keep looking for best match ups. He has fought virtually every star in this division leaving no doubt that he is untouchable at this level.

At middleweight, Floyd is not guaranteed a smooth sail and he should be ready for a few losses in case he considers the shift. After his debut at welterweight where he first faced Zab Judah, Mayweather seem to lose the punching power he once was known for. He has grown to become a fighter and a promoter with highest grossing matches despite not scoring knockouts lately.

David Haye could bring back the glory days of boxing

haye4543By Idris Morrey: I am of the opinion that the lighter or smaller divisions have fully stolen the spotlight from what was once the greatest and most dreaded division in the world of boxing. Floyd Mayweather Jr is in the minds of more boxing fans than the sport has ever for a lesser weight class fighter. He can be compared to the likes of Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard for that one element of generating huge pay per view sales and sold out crowds. But Floyd’s fights have not been as spectacular compared to the legends of the sport.

Its agreeable that heavyweight division has lost its glory even with more noise from Shannon Briggs, Dereck Chisora, Alex Lepai and the rest. Forget Wladimir Klitschko whose fights are lopsided and kind of boring.
