It’s Floyd’s Choice. part 1

floyd22By Dean Gsell: With all the current rumors about who Floyd Mayweather Jr. is fighting next, none of them seem to be satisfying the rumors or the commenting fans. It’s funny but a lot of people would pay to see him fight a run down janitor in a parking lot, so long as he plans on finishing his career with a Sergio Martinez or Manny Pacquiao fight, and if were lucky both.

If Mayweather chooses an unexpected contender such as Devon Alexander who’s not a superstar fighter, the critics and some fans will claim that he’s ducking the challenging fights. That makes sense, but on the other hand some of the most exciting bouts have been when the little guy gets an unbelievable shot to shake up the world.

Freddie Roach: Trains to Entertain

roach2By Dean Gsell: Boxing survives for a few reasons, currently money comes in at number, and one is funded by human thirst to see a good fight. True fans don’t just see good fights, they feel them. They’re proud of their winners and cringe when they’re going down. Although winning is the name of the game, it does not always entertain.

Gatti fans would have payed to see him fight an eighteen wheeler at 80 mph knowing he would have went down swinging, win, lose or draw. Seeing a guy countering out of a turtle shell may win on points, but wont bring the crowd out of their seats. I recently went through my DVR deleting hours of matches and skimming over the ones to keep. Even in fast forward you can see the action packed fights.

pac54By Dean Gsell: Despite Manny Pacquiao’s recent loss, I know everyone thinks their tired of hearing the on and off possibility of a Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Pacquiao fight, but yet it makes a boxing headline almost every day. If you keyword boxing you find Mayweather vs. Pacquiao somewhere.

For boxing fans understanding how boxing matchups work is like trying to figure out the government. I know everyone involved in a good match has to make no less than $10 million, but we the people are the pay per view fans. With that said the following article may sound like a fictional joke to promoters but common sense to the fans.
