Robert Guerrero: Don’t underestimate him

guerrero562By Bill Mitchell: With the upcoming super fight on May 4th between Floyd Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO’s), and Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs), there are fans who see challenger Robert Guerrero as a fighter that Floyd will walk over. An opponent who’s really a light welter weight who lacks solid punching power.

A guy who pushes his opponent to the ropes and uses his head as a weapon. The consensus is Floyd is smarter than him and will take him out. One thing’s for certain. You can bet the referee’s going to play an important role in this fight.

Mayweather-Guerrero: Do you believe in Ghosts?

guerrero41By Bill Mitchell: While it’s usually Floyd Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO’s) who hypes the fight, six time champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KOs), wasted no time firing the first shot in his upcoming fight with Floyd Mayweather. Guerrero, in a phone interview with AP, began trash talking the champion by saying he observed slippage in Mayweather. That his legs are slowing down at 36 years of age and that he picks and chooses his opponents. Guerrero also suggested fans can earn a lot of money by wagering on him with the high odds being given in Las Vegas. Recently, Guerrero tweeted to Mayweather “hope u liked working corners I’m gonna make it permanent pretty boy! The fans want it 70 days left buddy”

Guerrero’s convinced Mayweather doesn’t realize what he’s getting into. That with Mayweather’s recent stint in jail and being out of the ring for a year, he’ll have too much ring rust to deal with Guererro’s aggressive style . Guerrero also said, and this is a quote “I was put in this position not only to humble the boxing world, but to humble Floyd Mayweather. I have a lot of faith that I’m going to go in there and dominate this fight.”

Gabriel Rosado steps up to challenge Gennady Golovkin

golovkin2by Bill Mitchell: Gabriel Rosado, 21-5 (13 KOs) and his trainer Billy Briscoe, two men from the mean streets of North Philadelphia, aren’t easily intimidated. Just to prove it they’ve decided to walk away from the position of being the # 1 IBF mandatory challenger in the junior middleweight rankings. Instead of fighting IBF champion Cornelius “K9″ Bundrage, 32 – 4 (19 KO’s) they’re moving up to middleweight to fight the intimidating WBA Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, 24-0 (21 KOs).

It wasn’t always like that. In the beginning of 2012, Rosado’s record was 18-5, 10 KO’s. By the end of the year he had three wins all by knock out on the NBC Sports Network’s “Fight Night” boxing series.

Friday Night Fights begins with contentious judging

barth2by Bill Mitchell: Friday night fights broadcast their season debut last night live on ESPN from The Magic City Casino in Miami, Fl. The main event featured two undefeated junior lightweight contenders Rances Barthelemy (17-0, 11 KOs) and Arash Usmanee (20-0,10 KOs). And here’s where the controversy ensues.

Barthelemy , a tall, technically correct left-hander who fights conventional was expected to be Cuba’s next professional star after winning three impressive victories last year. He was the expected favorite. However undefeated Afghanistan-born Canadian resident Arash Usmanee, a tough stalker with power and brawling skills had a different mindset. In a pre-fight interview he said “I am an aggressor with good technique, and this coming Friday you’ll see a great fight.”

Is Robert Guerrero a worthy opponent for Floyd Mayweather, Jr ?

guerrero9By Bill Mitchell: If the fight on May 4, 2013 between Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 19 KO’s) and Floyd Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO’s) takes place this spring, how many of you believe it is a fair match-up? I hear some fans expressing disappointment. They think that Mayweather, a five-division world champion, who has won eight world titles and the Lineal championship in three different weight classes, is choosing a blown up lightweight in Robert Guerrero.

Does Guerrero deserve the notoriety of a fight with Mayweather? The big league, the major bucks and a chance to make history? He took out the previously undefeated Selkuk Aydin and then went on to defeat Andre Berto last year. Robert’s a three time interim world champion and held a number of national titles.
