Tim Tszyu vs. Vergil Ortiz junior middleweight fight is being planned for the undercard of Israil Madrimov vs. Terence Crawford event on August 3rd in Los Angeles.
If the fight is made, Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) will be taking on the unbeaten Golden Boy-promoted Ortiz Jr. (20-0, 20 KOs) in a fight at 154 on His Excellency Turki Alalshikh’s card in Los Angeles, California.
It’s a risky fight for former WBO junior middleweight champion Tszyu to be taking because he lost his last fight against Sebastian Fundora on March 30th by a 12-round split decision in Las Vegas. Though
Tszyu was dealing with a bad cut in that fight, he was still troubled by Fundora’s work rate, and he would have had problems even if he hadn’t been dealing with all the blood. If Vergil Ortiz beats Tszyu, it will hurt his career, and fans will not see him as the same fighter.

Tszyu will still be popular in Australia, but U.S fans won’t be as excited about seeing him. On social media, people are already predicting a victory for Vergil over Tszyu, and they could be right. What we saw from Tim against Fundora, he’s going to be over his head against Ortiz.
With the recently beaten Tszyu now added to the card for a fight against the young gun, Vergil Ortiz, this event is already one of the best this year. It’s arguably superior to PBC’s recent match involving Tszyu last March.
Ortiz, 26, has a fight this Saturday, April 27th against Thomas Dulorme that he must win to have a chance to take on the former WBO junior middleweight champion Tszyu next August. That shouldn’t be a problem for Ortiz, but you never know. He’s been dealing with medical problems off and on for the last two years that have slowed the progress of his career.
