Las Vegas, NV – The kick-off press conference for the championship doubleheader between Gervonta Davis – Frank Martin and David Benavidez – Oleksandr Gvozdyk was held today at the MGM Grand Ballroom on this big Cinco De Mayo weekend.

The doubleheader card will be action packed featuring two of boxing’s biggest stars in Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) and David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) scheduled for Saturday, June 15th at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

David Benavidez is moving up to light heavyweight as he grew tired of waiting on Canelo Alvarez to agree to fight him. Benavidez is facing Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) the former WBC and lineal light heavyweight champion.

Gvozdyk defeated Adonis Stevenson (29-2-1, 24 KOs) in 2018 to capture the lineal title. The match will be for the interim WBC light heavyweight championship.

The winner could potentially face Dmitry Bivol, now that he finds himself without an opponent after it was announced yesterday that Artur Beterbiev suffered a ruptured meniscus while training for the June 1st bout. Beterbiev is expected to be out until November.

Unlike their counterparts, Benavidez and Gvozdyk were cordial and respectful to each other during the presser. Benavidez stated now is the right time for him to move up to light heavyweight as he’s waited on Canelo long enough and expects a tough match against a former Artur Beterbiev opponent.

Benavidez would like to become undisputed in this division and hopes to earn the opportunity to challenge for the undisputed crown soon.

Benavidez is expected to attend tonight’s fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia possibly placing more public pressure on Canelo to give him the opportunity to fight him in the future.

Gervonta Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title against undefeated top contender Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) in what should be a competitive match. The slick southpaw had a sparring session with Tank in August of 2020, has some familiarity with Tank, and expects to truly challenge Davis in this fight.

Tank’s last match was against the controversial Ryan Garcia in April of 2023, when he dropped him with a vicious kidney shot in the 7th round.

Both exchanged words throughout the press conference, Davis suggesting that Martin is not ready for this fight as he is stepping to another level.

Tank also interrupted Frank several times during the presser, jabbing him verbally. In the end, they disputed a video that Tank only revealed to Martin and whispered in his ear. The media requested the video be shown but Tank did not oblige.
