Aussie boxer George Kambosos Jr. was highly critical of Ryan Garcia after learning of his positive PED tests for his fight against Devin Haney on April 20th.
According to Dan Rafael, Garcia tested positive for Ostarine on two of his urine tests for April 19 and April 20. He states that Ryan also was confirmed for Norandrosterone on the 19th, but that one is still being tested.
We still don’t know whether Ryan was using a nutritional substance that contained those substances.
On social media, Ryan seemed to suggest the cause of his positive test from a nutritional substance, and he was even singing to it and thanking it for helping him defeat Haney.
Ryan’s physique didn’t resemble a person using PEDs, so we got to wait and see what the reason was for his two positive tests.
What Garcia Tested Positive For
“Just seeing what he actually tested positive for. If this is the truth with what he’s tested positive for especially for this thing in coming in three pounds heavy in using every bit of advantage, especially the cheating advantage, it’s a bad look. It’s a dog act,” said George Kambosos Jr. to Sean Zittel, reacting to Ryan Garcia testing positive for two PEDs for his fight against Devin Haney on April 20th.
Kambosos is getting a little ahead of himself with the “dog act” comment because Ryan’s tests still haven’t been made official, and we don’t know if it was caused by something he was taking. Fans on social media don’t believe Ryan would knowingly take a PED, especially with testing involved.
“You got to feel for Devin Haney because he went through hell in that fight with the three knockdowns and still finished the fight on his feet,” said Kambosos.
What Kambosos isn’t saying it the fight should have been stopped in the seventh round when Ryan knocked Haney down four times, but was only given credit for one by the referee, who was having a bad night.
Usually, when there are four knockdowns in the same round, the fight is stopped. This referee let it continue and wasn’t counting the repeated times Haney was dropped. Ryan looked sensational compared to how Kambosos performed in his two fights against Haney.
That had to have been a bitter pill for Kambosos to swallow watching Ryan dominate a fighter hie was schooled by twice.
“I’m a warrior. I’m always prepared for whatever in that ring, do or die. When you start to play games where you come in heavy, he did that,” said Kambosos about Ryan. “Devin usually has the advantage as the bigger guy, but Ryan tried to twist it on them to do the same to be bigger.’
Given Haney’s history of being bigger than his opponents, it’s not a big deal that Ryan tried to be bigger than him. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
“It’s criminal”
“But then when you start to add cheating and enhancements, it’s not a good look for the sport,’ said Kambosos.” But as a fighter who is risking his life, that’s criminal. Haney has a good team, and I’m sure his next step is going to be legal and attack back to Ryan because it’s a bad move. Now, you have the cheating part. It’s a bad move, a disgusting move.”
Nothing is official yet about Ryan’s positive tests, so we can’t say he was cheating, and using this to gain an edge.
“It shows he’s a warrior,” said Kambosos about Haney. “He was able to last the three knockdowns, and it was still a close fight.”
