Tszyu considering Spence or Crawford fight: Paycheck Will Be The Deciding Factor

Tim Tszyu says he’s interested in fighting Errol Spence Jr. or Terence Crawford next and will decide which to fight based on the one that pays more.

Tszyu (27-0, 17 KOs) still must win his fight this Saturday, March 30th, against Sebastian Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KOs) before he and his manager, Glen Jennings, can decide which direction to take for their next fight.

Spence: The Proven PPV Draw

On paper, Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) is the more proven PPV attraction than the 36-year-old Crawford. Terence’s only successful fight on pay-per-view was against Spence last July, and many feel that Errol made that clash successful.

If Team Tszyu is going to base their decision on which of the two fighters pay more, Spence would be the one to pick.

Crawford has the belts and the credentials of having captured world titles in three weight classes, but his opposition has been lackluster until his fight with Spence. Crawford’s popularity likely increased due to his win over Spence and the visibility he got from that fight.

Still, you can’t count on fans wanting to pay to see him fight based on his win over Spence. You have to look at Crawford’s past PPV failures and note that he doesn’t sell for some reason.

It’s All About the Money

“I’m not vacating anything yet,” said Tszyu to the media about the reports of him vacating his WBO title. “Beautiful, he’s finally awake,” said Tim, reacting to being told that Errol Spence Jr. has surfaced.

If Tszyu fights Spence next, he might have to give Crawford a step-aside payment to get him to clear a path unless the WBO allows him to take the fight with Errol first.

“I’ll fight any of them. Whatever makes sense. Whatever is easier to make,” said Tszyu when asked who he’d like to fight next between Spence and Terence Crawford. “Whoever, it really doesn’t bother me. Fundora first.

“Why would I not take Crawford, but why would I not take Spence as well? If I’m given the Spence fight, I’ll take it. if I’m given the Crawford fight, I’ll take it. I was given Fundora with 12 days notice, I took it. Whatever makes more business sense. Whatever pays more,” said Tszyu when asked if he had Spence and Crawford on the table, which of the two would he pick. Put the money up, I guess.”

It’s going to be interesting to see what Crawford’s reaction will be if Tszyu chooses to fight Spence rather than him next. Crawford may throw a fit. He really wants the Tszyu fight, even though he hasn’t earned it,  but he wants it nonetheless.

“100%, for sure,” said Tszyu when asked if he’d fight Spence in Dallas.
