WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez has been given the boot by Ring Magazine on their top 10 pound-for-pound spot after his controversial win over Jamaine Ortiz last February, replaced by unbeaten IBF/WBO flyweight champion Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez in the updated ratings.

Lopez’s Performance Falls Flat

Ortiz completely dominated Teofimo, hitting him at will with shots, getting the better of him in every exchange in the fight, and making a monkey out of him. At the end of the contest, there was no question who the better man was, yet the judges gave it to Teo.

Although Teofimo’s loyal fans still backed him, the boxing world saw it for what it was. Another A-side fighter being given a gift decision.

It’s not unexpected that Teofimo (20-1, 13 KOs) would be replaced by Bam Rodriguez because if you saw Teo’s questionable win against Jamaine Ortiz on February 24th, you’d know that it was too controversial for him to stay at the #10 spot on Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound list.

Jamaine Ortiz dominated Teofimo the entire fight, giving him a boxing lesson in that fight and making it look so easy. Many saw Ortiz winning 11-1, but the judges surprisingly gave it to the Teofimo by the following scores:

Sadly, this wasn’t the first controversial win for the New Yorker Teofimo. He was recently given a ten-round split decision win over Sandor Martin in December 2022 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Sandor dropped Teofimo twice in that fight and had him mumbling to himself afterward, saying, “Do I still got it?”

Bam Rodriguez Continues to Impress

The young talent Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez continues to shine with every fight. In his recent outings, he’s looked like pure gold, defeating Sunny Edwards, Cristian Gonzalez, Israel Gonzalez, Carlos Cuadras, and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
