Devin’s dad, Bill Haney, reacted this week to Ryan Garcia’s leaked sparring video, saying, “He can hurt someone” if he lands one of his power shots.

Bill says he knows Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) is training hard for his title shot against WBC light welterweight champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) on April 20th.

Acknowledging Garcia’s Power

“We know he’s a dedicated fighter. We got a chance to see the sparring session, and, of course, you can’t tell everything about sparring, but we know that he’s working, and we know that he can hurt someone if he gets hit with that shot,” said Bill Haney on social media, reacting to the leaked sparring video of Ryan Garcia this week in his training for Devin Haney on April 20th.

“I never thought Ryan Garcia was crazy at all…He’s trying to be an activist. He may believe in certain causes and certain things that he’s talking about, and he doesn’t have the experience [knowledge] to talk about them. So, there are holes in his delivery and his message.

Unlike some, Bill doesn’t view Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) as “crazy,” but rather him having different causes that he feels passionate about. Bill says that Ryan doesn’t have the experience/knowledge to talk about the causes. He feels that he lacks the depth in the subjects that he’s talking about to discuss them properly.

The Audience Factor

Ryan has superficial knowledge about the causes he preaches about on social media, making him sound paranoid and out of touch.

If Ryan had deep knowledge and were viewed as an authority figure about his different causes, the stuff he would discuss on social media would go over the heads of his followers, who don’t care about these things.

Ryan’s followers want him to talk about his life and boxing, not his conspiracy theories about strange topics. He’s alienating his audience by discussing social issues they’re not interested in.
