Haney vs. Davis: War of Words Ignites, But Will the Fight Ever Happen?

Unbeaten champions Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Devin Haney continued their beef this week, posting angry words on Twitter but still failing to agree to meet inside the ring.

Fans want to see WBC light welterweight champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champ Tank Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) fight, but at this point, it’s questionable whether they ever will.

Haney’s Frustration Boils Over

The Bay Arena native Devin Haney voiced his disappointment this week on X, letting the fans know, “I’ve been calling that dude [Gervonta Davis’ out for years. He only says something when I got a fight, but now, I don’t. We can fight now wherever he chooses!”

Haney then said he wants Tank to have his management to make contact with his side so they can begin the negotiations for a fight.

It would help if Haney would let the fans and Tank know that he’s willing to give him concessions, in terms of agreeing to a 137-lb catchweight, 10-lb rehydration clause with an upper limit of 147-lbs for the secondary weigh-in at 4:00 p.m. ET on the night of the fight in addition to whatever financial splits he asks for.

If Haney is willing to agree to all of that, a fight with Tank is a very real possibility, and it would be best that he let him and the fans know that he’s willing to do these things to make the mega-fight happen.

Porter Throws Fuel on the Fire

Shawn Porter seemed to make things worse this week, throwing fuel on the fire, by saying that neither guy wants the fight, which basically means they’re just talking back & forth for clout purposes to gain attention with the fans, but without any true interest. In other words, it’s all fake theatrics from two guys who don’t want to risk their records and potentially get exposed.

“I’m on record for saying the [Gervonta Davis vs. Haney] fight doesn’t happen and why. I do my best to keep 100 without completely exposing the business. Quiet as it’s kept, neither one of y’all want the fight right now,” said Porter.

Tank Fires Back with Mockery

Gervonta Davis’ rebuttal: “Now, ask Shawn this question. If I beat his backside in the gym and he was over 147 lbs, why tf would I be scared to fight a guy with just a nose? It’s not adding up.”
