Canelo Alvarez already training for his next fight: Will it be Benavidez-Andrade winner?

By Sean Jones: Canelo Alvarez has already started training for his next fight, which could be against the winner of the David Benavidez vs. Demetrius Andrade fight. Canelo might as well start early with his prep if he’s going to fight one of those two, as he’s going to need as much work as possible.

Three weeks ago, Canelo easily defeated Jermell Charlo by a dominant twelve round unanimous decision on September 30th.  For the 33-year-old Mexican star to be back in the gym, it could be s signal that he’s ramping up for a fight.

For obvious reasons, the fight that fans aren’t interested in seeing is Canelo defending against the inactive middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, who hasn’t fought in almost three years.

It would be a pleasant surprise if Canelo returns to the ring in December for a third fight this year, as he’s not been this busy since he captured the undisputed 168-lb championship in 2021.

Options for Canelo’s next fight:

  • Jermall Charlo
  • David Benavidez
  • Conor McGregor
  • Demetrius Andrade
  • Dmitry Bivol

The undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo  (60-2-2, 39 KOs) usually doesn’t return to the gym this soon after a fight, as tends to take it easy and indulge in his hobby, golf.

“What do I make of Canelo Alvarez & Conor McGregor? I thought it was a load of rubbish, to be honest,” said Carl Froch on his YouTube channel. “McGregor is trying to stay relevant, keeping himself in the boxing. But for McGregor, who said he did a better job than Canelo Alvarez against Floyd Mayweather. For him to say that, it’s ridiculous.

You can’t put it past Canelo to pick up an easy paycheck fighting the washed-up 35-year-old Conor McGregor. Hey, if Floyd did it, Canelo might as well too.

“Floyd Mayweather, when he fought Conor McGregor, he was literally taking his time. I think it was a tenth round stoppage, but he was holding him up, pit-patting him, taking his time,” said Froch.

“I got a feeling that he wanted it to end in round ten, and I can’t see why. So, maybe that was part of his game plan, but McGregor was awful; he was useless. To compare himself to the great Canelo Alvarez to me is ridiculous. It was a little bit embarrassing.

“He’s trying to build a fight between him and Canelo Alvarez, but I don’t know why. He’ll get absolutely smashed to bits. Canelo will ruin him. It’s just ridiculous, Conor McGregor piping up. He’s fighting again in the Mixed Martial Arts world. I don’t know why.

“He’s made plenty of money. He’s calling out Canelo. He’s pretty much retired, but not officially,” said Froch about the 35-year-old McGregor, who hasn’t fought since 2021.
