Boxing results – Santillan destroys Rocha in 6th round KO

By Ken Hissner: Giovani ‘Galo de Oro’ Santillan stopped WBO NABO welterweight champion Alexis ‘Lex’ Rocha in the sixth round on Saturday night in the main event on DAZN at the KIA Forum in Inglewood, California.

In the co-main event, WBA Continental Americas Super Fly champ John ‘Scrappyi’ Ramirez stopped Ronal Batista in four rounds in a WBA world title fight eliminator.

In the main event, WBO NABO Welter champ and No. 1 WBO ranked southpaw Alexis ‘Lex’ Rocha, 23-2 (15), was stopped by southpaw and No. 4 WBO ranked Giovani ‘Galo de Oro’ Santillan, 32-0 (16) at 1:13 of the sixth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the first two minutes of the first round, Rocha outworked Santillan. In the final minute, Santillan came back well. In the second round, Santillan drew blood from the nose of Rocha in the first minute as both were throwing punches.

In the third and fourth rounds, the slugfest continued with non-stop punching from both. In the fifth round, Rocha’s face was covered with blood as Santillan dropped him with half a dozen punches for an 8-count from Referee Ray Corona.

Upon rising, both were throwing punches when Rocha missed a left hook and fell to the canvas.

In the sixth round, Santillan landed eleven unanswered head punches and dropped Rocha to his knees as Referee Corona wisely called a halt.

In the co-main event, WBA Continental Americas Super Fly champ John ‘Scrappy’ Ramirez, 13-0 (9), stopped Ronal Batista, 15-4 (9) at 2:33 of the fourth round of a scheduled 12 rounds in a WBA Super Fly eliminator.

In the first round, Ramirez forced the action backing up Batista. In the second round, Batista worked the body for two minutes. In the final round, both mixed it up.

In the third round, it was all Ramirez who, in the final seconds, drove Batista back several steps with a right on the chin.

At the fourth round’s halfway point, Ramirez had Batista hurt with a combination. In the final minute, a left to the body from Ramirez dropped Batista for an 8-count from Referee Jack Reiss.

In the final minute, over a half dozen punches landed by Ramirez had him falling to the canvas as Referee Reiss called a halt.

Fly Ricardo ‘El Nino’ Sandoval, 23-2 (16), defeated Victor ‘Chucky’ Sandoval, 37-4 (23) over ten action-packed rounds.

In the first round, Victor Sandoval was making his first appearance in the US with all his previous fights in Mexico. He dropped the first round but came back to win the second out, landing Ricardo.

In the third round, Ricardo had swelling around his left eye though taking the round.

In the fourth round’s final seconds, a left hook from Ricardo rocked Victor on the chin. In the fifth and sixth rounds, the action continued as Ricardo countered the oncoming Victor.

In the seventh round, Victor continued landing more punches, while Ricardo threw more punches that hurt Victor.

In the eighth round, Victor was bleeding from the nose and mouth. In the ninth round, a clash of heads caused a cut on the left eyebrow of Ricardo. In the tenth and final round, Ricardo had a lump on his forehead. Referee Michael Margado

Scores were 97-93 twice and 96-94, as did KH.

Former IBF, WBC, and WBO World Fly and current IBF champ Arely ‘Ametralladora’ Mucini, 32-4-2 (11), was stopped by 21-year-old southpaw Gabriela ‘Sweet Poison’ Fundora, 12-0 (5) at 1:18 of the fifth round of a scheduled 10×2 rounds.

In the first round, taller Fundora dominated the round, having Mucini hurt in the corner at the bell with a body shot. In the second round, Fundora had Mucini hurt several times. In the fourth round, Fundora continued outlanding Mucini.

In the fifth round, Fundora dropped Mucini with a right and left combination and an 8-count from Referee Jack Reiss after a minute.

Fundora was all over Mucini, dropping her a second time with a flurry of punches and an 8-count from Referee Reiss. Fundora was all over Mucini, causing Referee Reiss to call a halt.

Super Middle David ‘Dynamite’ Stevens, 13-1 (9), stopped by Joeshon ‘Shontime’ James, 8-0-2 (4) at 2:52 of the first round of a scheduled eight rounds.

After a minute of the first round, a right from James on the chin almost dropped Stevens as he went into a squat. Shortly later, a left followed by a right on the chin from James dropped Stevens for an eight count from referee Jerry Cantu.

In the final minute, James again dropped Stevens for an 8-count from Referee Cantu from a right on the chin. In the final seconds of the round, James landed a left hook to the chin, putting Stevens against the ropes when Referee Cantu wisely called a halt.

Super Feather Iyana ‘Roxy’ Verduzco, 1-0 (0), defeated Clarice Morales, 0-3-1 (0) over four rounds.

From the first through the fourth round, Verduzco dominated Morales for the most part. The referee was Ray Carona. The ring announcer was Joe Martinez.
