Jaron Ennis says Crawford – Spence rematch is pointless

By Dan Ambrose: Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis thinks that it would be pointless for Terence Crawford & Terence Crawford to meet for a rematch because their fight last Saturday night was too “one-sided” for them to run it back.

Many useless rematches have taken place over the years in boxing, but the Crawford-Spence would be at the upper end of the spectrum if it were to take place.

Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) destroyed the 33-year-old Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) by a ninth round knockout, which was never even slightly competitive.

Spence looked like he had a lot of dead nerve fibers in his arms, causing a loss of hand speed & reflexes. That’s a sign of aging and ring wear.

If Crawford stays around the sport long enough, he’ll be dealing with the same problem and will be vulnerable against the top 154-pounders after he moves up in weight.

Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) says that instead of the 36-year-old Crawford fighting Spence again, he’d like for him to defend his undisputed welterweight championship against him next before he moves up to 154.

Boots Ennis wants Crawford

The main guy I want is Bud, but I’d take Spence too, but the main guy I want is Bud because he has all the belts,” said Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis to YSM Sports Media about him wanting to challenge Terence Crawford for his undisputed welterweight championship.

Crawford might not be accessible for a while, as he’ll be tied down with a rematch with Spence, and after that, he’s expected to attempt to go after the belts at 154.

“It was an okay fight. Bud did his thing, but it looked like Spence was off, flat, and he wasn’t moving his head and was getting hit with a lot of shots,” said Boots Ennis when asked about his thoughts on Crawford’s win over Errol Spence Jr last Saturday night.

“Yeah, I thought it was going to be a bit more competitive, but it’s boxing. Things happen. I don’t know what it was, but Spence, he was off. He was slow, the timing was bad. Everything was just wrong. It could have been the weight. Maybe when he [Spence] goes to 154, he’ll probably be a little bit better,” Boots said about Errol.

“No point” in Crawford-Spence rematch

“Honestly, I feel like it’s no point because it was one-sided,” said Ennis when asked if he’d like to see a rematch between Errol Spence and Crawford.

“It was really one-sided, but maybe at 154, he’ll have a better advantage and feel a little bit better with the extra seven pounds and not losing that much weight. I don’t know.

“The only thing I saw is Crawford didn’t switch at all. He stayed southpaw the whole time. Crawford is really just a southpaw fighter. I don’t think he’s built on the right-hand side.

“When he turned southpaw, you could tell he was right-handed because he finished his combinations with his right hand. So you could just tell he was right-handed,” said Ennis.
