Tank Davis should fight Haney-Lomachenko winner, then Stevenson says Roy Jones Jr

By Matt Lieberman: Gervonta Davis should fight the winner of the Devin Haney vs. Vasily Lomachenko contest and then Shakur Stevenson. That’s what Roy Jone Jr would like to see from WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Gervonta (29-0, 27 KOs) in his next two fights. Whether Tank Davis agrees to take those fights is slim.

Unfortunately, with Tank Davis being aligned with PBC and fighting on a different network than Haney, Lomachenko, and Stevenson, there’s a chance that we may not see him fight any of those guys.

If non-PBC fighter Ryan Garcia weren’t so popular and willing to give Tank Davis every negotiating advantage under the sun, we wouldn’t have seen that fight in a million years.

Haney & Lomachenko don’t have nine million Instagram followers like Ryan did, and they’re NOT about to agree to give Tank Davis a dual handicap of a 136-lb catchweight + rehydration clause to weaken themselves so he feels safe enough to fight them.

If those fights don’t happen, Frank Martin would be a makeable match-up for Tank Davis because he’s a PBC fighter fight, and I would like to see him battle the self-proclaimed new face of boxing.

“For me, a great fight for Tank would be the winner of Lomachenko-Devin Haney fight because that’s another fight between two fighters that are good fighters,” said Roy Jones Jr on his Youtube channel.

“One with no losses [Haney], another with two losses, but the losses he got aren’t like losses like he got destroyed or beat up bad or got knocked out. He’s got legitimate losses, and he never lost to a guy that came into the ring heavier than him,” said Jones, unaware that Lomachenko was outweighed in both of his losses to Teofimo Lopez and Orlando Salido.

“That would be a very interesting fight to see him [Tank Davis] fight one of those fighters because we don’t know who is going to win that fight [Haney-Lomachenko] yet, but Devin will come into the ring heavier than him, so we don’t know.

“They also know each other because I’m sure Tank and Haney have sparred. They know each other, but him and Loma don’t. The thing with Loma is that when he was ready to fight Tank back in the day, Tank wasn’t ready to take that step up, but it didn’t happen.

“In Loma’s mind, he probably thinks he’s better than Tank, but Tank has matured very well as a fighter. So I think that would be a great fight too.

“I think whoever win the Haney-Loma fight will have a big payday with Gervonta Davis. Then after that, the winner of that fight has got to give Shakur Stevenson a shot,” said Roy.
