By Sam Volz: Daniel Dubois says he wants the Oleksandr Usyk fight next in the summer in the UK, and he believes he can “100% knock him out” for his mandated WBA title shot.

Negotiations between unified heavyweight champion Usyk and Dubois will begin this weekend. The 25-year-old regular WBA heavyweight champion Dubois didn’t give an update on the status of his injured right leg, which he hurt in his last fight against former cruiserweight Kevin Lerena last December.

‘Dynamite’ Dubois will need to be medically cleared for the fight to happen, as he’s not going to go into it hobbling and think he’s going to pull out a victory as he did against Lerena.

Dubois could have lost that fight after getting dropped three times by the southpaw Lerena in the first round. Why the referee didn’t stop the fight is the important question because it was obvious that Dubois was injured, and going down from every shot, Lerena hit him in the opening round.

Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs) is getting the fight against IBF, WBA & WBO unified champ Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) after Tyson Fury flubbed the negotiations.

Dubois predicting knockout of Usyk

“Why not go for the big one now? I’m 100% going for it, and I believe I can knock him out,” said Daniel Dubois to Pitch Boxing about him wanting IBF, WBA & WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk next. “I bring a lot to the table that he hasn’t fought before.

“Just speed, belief, youth, and strength. He’s never faced a fighter like me or been hit by a fighter like me. I think I can knock him out and bring them belts back [to England],” said Dubois.

“100%, this is the time to get it on. I’m coming back, and I’m coming back stronger than I did before. So why not go for the big one now,” said Dubois.

“This is all the belts and all the glory that goes with it. Yeah, there was talk, and I’m next in line. I have the regular belt, so there was always that standby mentality for me.

“I was always thinking I could get the call. I feel definitely for the summer. I want it to be a summer fight. Yeah, for sure,” said Dubois when asked if he wanted the Usyk fight in the UK.

Dubois’ career could be over after this fight if Usyk destroys him worse than Joe Joyce did.
