Floyd Schofield Jr. and his father criticized Shakur Stevenson’s punching power, opposition, and reputation, with the elder Schofield arguing that his elite billing comes from his connections to famous fighters rather than the opponents he has beaten.
“He got no power. He’s only elite by association, not by who he fought, because he haven’t fought nobody elite,” said Floyd Schofield during their Fight Hub TV interview.
“People put him on the scales. Why? Because Andre Ward managed him. Because Crawford is like his big brother. Because Floyd Mayweather wanted to manage him when he was coming out the Olympics.”
Schofield’s father also called Shakur “a clown,” questioning why the boxing community gives his opinions so much attention.
The criticism followed Stevenson’s comments on X after Schofield’s unanimous decision win over Lucas Bahdi for the vacant WBA lightweight title. Shakur dismissed Schofield as a C-level fighter, something the newly crowned champion clearly hadn’t forgotten during the interview.
“When he tweeted, I was like, he really a fan because he was watching me. I can’t remember the last time I watched a Shakur fight,” said Schofield Jr.
The younger Schofield questioned Shakur’s right to criticize him after sharing the ring with a puncher like Bahdi. His complaint focused on Stevenson’s use of movement when facing dangerous opponents.
“He uses the whole ring like a track field,” said Schofield Jr. “Somebody who fights like that can’t tell me how I fight or how I should fight or what type of fighter I am.”
Schofield acknowledged that he has things to improve, yet remained pleased with his performance and the crowd’s reaction. Later, he endorsed his father’s comments: “You said everything I could say, bro. I agree 100%.”
The father’s strongest argument concerns opposition. Having Ward and Crawford’s approval doesn’t replace beating top fighters. Shakur’s power is a separate question, because a fighter can succeed through timing, accuracy, and defense without producing knockouts.
For all their criticism, the Schofields aren’t pushing to face Stevenson next. His father said their plans have nothing to do with Shakur, while discussing William Zepeda as an easier fight to arrange.
The insults are getting louder, while a fight between them remains outside Team Schofield’s immediate plans.
