By Dan Ambrose: WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade weighed in at 160 pounds on Thursday’s weigh-in for his title defense against #10 WBO fringe contender Jason Quigley (19-1, 14 KOs) for Friday’s fight live on DAZN at the SNHU Arena, in Manchester, New Hampshire.  Ireland’s Quigley weighed in at 159.8 lbs.

This is the fifth title defense for the 33-year-old Andrade since he captured the WBO 160-lb title three years ago in 2018.

Andrade isn’t very expected about his defense, as the 30-year-old Quigley has been polite throughout the build-up, sounding at times more like a politician than a fighter with the way he carefully would choose each word he’d say.

Demetrius was more amped up for his last fight against Liam Williams because he was doing a lot of trash-talking and making knockout predictions.

Munguia doesn’t want that smoke

Andrade was hoping that his #1 WBO contender Jaime Munguia would use his mandatory position to take a fight with him, but he’s shown no interest in facing him.

Munguia beat Gabe Rosado last Saturday night, but then surprisingly called out IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin rather than Andrade.

The interesting part about that is Munguia is ranked a lowly #12 in the International Boxing Federation’s rankings at 160. Consequently, the only way Munguia will get a crack at Golovkin’s IBF title is if he gives him a title shot in a voluntary defense.

“Quigley was willing to say, ‘I’ll fight Demetrius Andrade,’ so here we go again,” said Andrade to Behind The Gloves. “I’m always going to be mentally prepared.

“That’s why I’m 30-0 with 18 knockouts and two-division world champion because of that reason,” said Demetrius. “Jason Quigley, he seems like a respectful person. I’m also a humble, respectful person.

Andrade wants drama

“Yeah, that’s what helps sell drama. Unfortunately, everything that sells in this world has to do with drama,” said Andrade when asked if he prefers his opponents to trash talk him. “I can’t really find the drama other than I’m going to beat his a** and knock him out.

“He said, ‘Oh yeah, Demetrius. There you are. I’m not saying I’m going to kick his a**, but I’ll give him a fight,'” said Andrade in imitating Quigley’s voice in saying how he’s playing it nice in the build-up to their fight.

“If he’s saying that, then that’s what it is,” said Andrade when told that his promoter Eddie Hearn said that he’s the most avoided fighter he’s ever had.

“This whole [Jaime] Munguia thing is funny. Okay, he won. He beat [Gabe] Rosado. Now he’s my mandatory. He’s been my mandatory for the last three, four years and he refuses to say, ‘I want to fight the champion.’

“So that’s why I’m fighting Quigley. So that’s why I’m fighting Luke Keeler, and that’s why I’m fighting [Liam] Williams. These people were willing to step up and take the opportunity unlike someone [Munguia] that is #1 to take the opportunity but refused not to.

“And then the questions being asked of him [Munguia] after the [Rosado] fight. ‘Oh, GGG.’ How does that even circulate? That could be done and the GGG-Murata thing.

“That’s all me, but if he wants that opportunity, you have to come this way to get that. Not just go and fight GGG. That just shows the tale of the tape behind the scenes,” said Andrade.
