By Jim Dower: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) made weight on Friday at his weigh-in with challenger Kevin Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) for their fight on Saturday night. Brook, 29, weighed in at 146.5lbs and looked in great shape and ready to battle it out against the Canadian Bizier on Saturday night.

The 31-year-old Bizier came in at 146.2lbs and looked lean.

The Brook-Bizier fight will be televised on Sky Sports, and it’s taking place at the Sheffield Arena in Sheffield, England.

“I owe the fans an exciting night, and I’m going to bring them fireworks,” Brook said to IFL TV about his fight against Bizier. Mr. Bizier needs to do his part. I want a war for everybody. I want an exciting fight. I’m ready. I’m going to get rid of Bizier. I’m going to box the guy,” said Brook.

Brook is feeling very confident about the Bizier fight, and actually wanting the fight to be a war. Whether that would be the case if Brook were fighting a better fighter is open to debate. This is a mismatch through no fault of Brook’s. The IBF is the one that made Bizier their #1 mandatory challenger despite him having been between twice by Jo Jo Dan recently.

Bizier has been proven not to have the pedigree to fight at the upper level of the sport, and yet the IBF has put him as their No.1 contender. This is the same thing the IBF did with Jo Jo Dan last year in making him their #1 contender despite him getting beaten by Selcuk Aydin not once but twice.

Bizier does have good punching power, and he might give Brook some problems if he can handle his punching power and hang around for 109 rounds. Bizier will need to keep busy the entire fight because if he stops punching, it’s going to be an invitation for Brook to just bury him with punches until the fight is halted. In Brook’s real test of his career against Shawn Porter in 2014, Brook struggled with Porter’s power, inside game, and his work rate. It was a fight that could have gone either way at the end of the fight.

Brook was getting hit a lot by Porter, and he had problems with all the shots the American was throwing. if Brook hadn’t been able to use strategic holding throughout the fight, he might have lost. Bizier will need to try and throw a massive amount of punches all night long to throw Brook off his game.

Brook might not realize how powerful Bizier is until gets in the ring with him. You can argue that Bizier might be the hardest puncher that Brook has ever faced before during his career. This is not a weak puncher by any means. If Brook lets Bizier hit him a lot in this fight, he could be in trouble. Brook cannot afford to let Bizier hang around for 12 rounds, because it’ll wind up as a grueling fight for Brook if that’s the case.

Brook is counting on beating Bizier in style, and then using the victory to get him a big summer fight in the UK against the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Danny Garcia, Miguel Cotto or Tim Bradley.
