By Jim Dower: IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) made it known today at the final press conference that he plans on beating IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) and leaving with his belts in their fight on HBO pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden in New York.

As of Wednesday, there are 10 tickets left for the 20,000 seat Madison Square Garden venue. Those tickets have obviously been sold out by now.

“It’s going to be history in the making,” Lemieux said. “Nothing is greater than a victory, which I’m getting on Saturday. I’m ready for a spectacular night in front of the world. I’m ready for anything. It’ll be a street fight if that’s what he wants. Let’s see who’s going to leave this place with all those belts. I couldn’t be more ready for this victory,” Lemieux said.

“I give big present to the people, to the fans,” Golovkin said. “He’s a very strong guy, a dangerous guy. Thank you to my fans. I promise to give a great show and a great event.”

“There’s a perceived threat this time,” Abel Sanchez said. His [Golovkin] attitude was more jovial, more willing to do things [in training camp]. He’s a great fighter. The difference is he’s a champion. I’m sure he doesn’t want to lose that. Everything has been done. This isn’t going to be a ballet; it’s going to be a fight. David seems very confident. If you don’t tune in you could miss the best fight of the decade.

1-golovkin (9)“I always knew I was going to fight him one way or another,” Lemieux said about Golovkin. “We’re going to see who the best is. I’ve been breaking records in my camp. It’s what fighters dream about.”

“I don’t think it’s going to go 12 rounds,” said Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler.
