Lennox Lewis: Tyson Fury rule the division? I think not!

fury63By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) was flapping his gums on Monday talking about how he’s going to rule the heavyweight division if he can beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) in their fight next month on October 24th at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

This led to Fury and former IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis going at it briefly on Twitter in exchanging a few comments. Lewis has serious doubt that the 27-year-old Fury will rule the division. Lewis thinks that Fury should focus on his next fight against Klitschko rather than messing around on the social media sites.

What was weird is that Fury invited Lewis to fight his aging father John Fury in a bare knuckle fight. I don’t know what to think of that. All I can think of it Lewis must have hit a nerve for Fury to try and put his father on him.

“If @LennoxLewis wants to do something come have a bare knuckle fight with my dad same age!,” Fury said on his Twitter.

As for Fury ruling the heavyweight division, I don’t think Fury can even rule the UK. I think Anthony Joshua beats his seven days a week and 365 days a year. I’m not high on Joshua, but I think he would never lose to a fighter like Fury. He would have nothing to hold Joshua off of him. Heck, I don’t even see Fury as being the 2nd best heavyweight in the UK.

I believe that Dillian Whyte is the No.1 heavyweight in the UK, with Joshua coming in second at No.2, and Fury possibly being No.3 depending on whether he could beat the likes of David Price. I know Price has been exposed by the likes of Tony Thompson twice and Erkan Teper, but Price does good against non-punchers, and Fury definitely isn’t a puncher. I think Price might be too much for Fury if that fight ever took place. Price certainly has the size to beat him.

“This playbook is getting old. @Tyson_Fury should now focus on @Klitschko, the guy he’s actually fighting. It’s been fun but I got work 2do,” Lewis said on Twitter.

I think Fury is the best talking heavyweight in the UK if that’s any consolation for him, but I definitely don’t see him as the No.1 or even the No.2 heavyweight. Joshua and Whyte would overpower Fury and do it in lightning fashion. I doubt that Fury would even make it past the 2nd round against either of them, because he would have no punching power to keep them from walking him down and braining him with hooks and right hands to the head. Whyte’s left hook would have Fury in trouble straightaway in the 1st round, and I’d be surprised if Fury would make it out of the round without hitting the canvas once or twice.
