Final Press Conference(Photo credit: Will Hart/HBO) By Scott Gilfoid: Former fighter Jamie Moore knows full well what #1 WBC Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12 KOs) is facing this Saturday night in his fight against WBA 160lb champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) in Monte Carlos.

Moore acknowledges that Golovkin is a tremendous puncher with loads of talent going for him in this fight. Moore is fully aware of what the 32-year-old Murray will be facing when he and Golovkin square off in their fight on HBO Championship Boxing.

Moore points to Murray’s lack of fear as something that he has going for him that could get him over the top in this fight.

Moore thinks that the best way for Murray to be is fearless when he enters the ring with Golovkin. However, I’m not so certain I agree with him. I think it would be far better for a light puncher like Murray to be afraid out of his wits at facing Golovkin than having him fighting with anger or overconfidence.

I mean, if Murray comes out there with a chip on his shoulder in an angry state of mind, the it’s likely going to result in Murray going straight into the teeth of Golovkin’s offense rather than having the Kazakhstan fighter have to come to him.

I think Murray will last a heck of a lot longer if he fights timidly like he did against Sergio Martinez and Felix Sturm, than if he comes out looking to punch with Golovkin. Mind you, I don’t think Murray would have any chance of winning against Golovkin if he fights purely in a defensive manner, but I do see him lasting a lot longer.

“He [Murray] has been quoted as saying that Golovkin doesn’t put shivers down his spine, he [Golovkin] makes him angry,” Moore said via Skysports.com. “That’s the right sort of attitude to have if you’re going to give yourself the best chance against someone like Golovkin. You can’t be intimidated. You need a one-track mind set to do whatever it takes to win and it looks like Martin has prepared himself mentally and physically to do that.”

I don’t think Murray is better served for him to go out there fighting angry against a talent like Golovkin. Fighting angry might work against the 2nd and 3rd tier fighters that Murray has built his resume on, but I don’t see it working well with Golovkin.

Murray might have had some success fighting angry against the one-legged, one-armed Sergio Martinez, who was dealing with major injuries to his left hand and right knee in the Murray fight, but I don’t see Murray as being able to have much success against a completely healthy and young Golovkin.

This isn’t a case of Golovkin being gimpy-legged or dealing with a broken left hand. Golovkin is going into his fight against Murray in top shape and ready to do battle with him for as long as it lasts.

Murray’s problem is he hasn’t fought the quality fighters during his career to get him ready for this fight. Murray has had way too many soft jobs over the years, and that’s not done him any favors.
