Mitchell thinks Katsidis could stop Coyle

katsidis223By Scott Gilfoid: Kevin Mitchell, one of Michael Katsidis’ former knockout victims, thinks the 34-year-old Katsidis could knockout the 25-year-old Tommy Coyle (19-2, 8 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night at the Hull Arena, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Mitchell notes that Coyle likes to stand in front of his opponents slugging it out. If he tries that tactic with Katsidis on Saturday night, then Mitchell thinks Katsidis will blast Coyle to smithereens in short order in 4-5 rounds.

Mitchell thinks Katsidis isn’t the same fighter he was four years ago when he blasted him out in just 3 rounds, but he still sees him as a formidable opponents, especially against a domestic level fighter like Coyle. The best thing Coyle has going for him is his youth, but that’s pretty much it.

Coyle has never fought a good opponent, and of course he’s never beaten anyone good. It’s all been pretty much C and D-level opposition throughout his career. Coyle has losses to Gary Sykes and Derry Mathews, which tells you all you need to know about Coyle’s level.

“I don’t think Michael is what he was when he fought me, but if you stand in front of him and let him let his hands go, he can do a job and he could knock Tommy out,” said Mitchell via Skysports.com. “I can see him getting an early finish if Coyle isn’t sensible. I think it will be another war. If Tommy does what he normally does then I think he could get knocked out in the first four or five rounds.”

Coyle is going to need to fight Katsidis is a war, because Katsidis cuts off the ring too well on his opponents. If Coyle chooses to fight with his back against the ropes like Ricky Burns did in his fight against Katsidis, then he’s going to need to pray that there are three judges that are willing to give him rounds for taking punches instead of throwing them, because that’s what we saw in Burns’ controversial win over Katsidis in the UK.

Burns stayed against the ropes for 12 rounds, and took terrible punishment, and was still given a decision.
