Floyd Sr says he can’t wait for Mayweather-Khan fight

khan111By Chris Williams: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr is really looking forward to a potential fight between his son WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) and Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) for next year.

Mayweather Jr hasn’t said anything about wanting to fight the 28-year-old Khan, but Floyd Sr has been quite vocal as of late in saying he thinks that Mayweather Jr may select Khan for his next fight in May of 2015.

Floyd Sr wants Mayweather to face Khan and shut him up from talking all the trash he’s been. Floyd Sr says he’s not worried about the hand speed of Khan, because he feels that Mayweather will counter him with shots each time Khan attempts to land something.

“Come on, man. I can’t wait,” Floyd Sr said to Fighthype.com about a Mayweather-Khan fight. “Ain’t no way in hell you gonna whoop no Floyd. You crazy! Man, lookie here, he [Khan] gonna find out. After Floyd get done putting this whoopin’ on your [backside], you ain’t gonna know your way across the street. Floyd’s gonna punish him.”

Floyd Sr is more excited about a Mayweather-Khan fight than he is about anyone else in boxing. Even a fight against Manny Pacquiao seemingly doesn’t interest Floyd Sr like a Mayweather-Khan fight, because he sees Pacquiao as being too limited to give Mayweather Jr a good fight. He sees Pacquiao as an easy fight for Mayweather Jr.

Khan-Mayweather could possibly get made if Mayweather doesn’t select Danny Garcia or Pacquiao to fight next May. You’d have to think that those are the only other possibilities unless Mayweather wants to pick out a really tough opponent like Gennady Golovkin.

There’s no one at 154 for Mayweather to fight because he already beat Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. At 147, there’s only Khan, Pacquiao, Keith Thurman, Tim Bradley, and Kell Brook. Bradley, Brook, Thurman and Pacquiao would have to be seen as tremendous longshots to get a fight against Mayweather because of either their lack of popularity or due to them being with Top Rank.

That leaves Khan and Danny Garcia. It’s a tossup as to which of those two will get the fight against Mayweather.
