Ishe Smith stops Davis

By Jim Dower: Former IBF junior middleweight champion Ishe Smith (26-6, 12 KO’s) stopped replacement opponent Ryan Davis (24-14-3, 9 KO’s) in the 2nd round tonight at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Smith dropped Davis in the 2nd round. At that point the referee halted the fight at 2:59 of the round.

It wasn’t a competitive fight, because Davis didn’t have the game to give Smith any real competition. That wasn’t all that surprising given that he’s a journeyman and was just called in with a couple weeks notice to take the fight against Smith.

Smith was previously scheduled to be fighting WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara, but he pulled out of the fight when an opportunity to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez came up. Smith would have had problems had he been facing Lara tonight instead of the journeyman Ryan Davis.
