It’s time to Froch En’ roll in Vegas

froch678By Chris McHugh: If I were Carl Froch, I would avoid a rematch with George Groves at all costs. There is no doubting ‘The Saint’ gave the champion all sorts of problems in their clash last month, but at the end of the day Froch took the young challenger’s best and came away with the ‘W’.

Why should he have to go through that again when the risk far outweighs the reward?

I’m sure Groves will get another world title shot soon enough, and I believe it is now time for Froch to finally see his name up in lights on the Las Vegas strip.

In order for that to happen though, the Nottingham fighter must take on the super-middleweight king Andre ‘SOG’ Ward, who I believe sits second in the pound-for-pound rankings behind the ever-brilliant Floyd Mayweather.

Ward, who was out of the ring for over a year with a shoulder injury, recently returned to action and showed no signs of ring rust as he delivered another boxing masterclass, schooling Edwin Rodriguez to show just why he is considered one of the best in the business.

The American currently holds the WBA Super and Ring magazine belts, while Froch is the proud owner of the IBF strap alongside the WBA Regular title.

This makes for a highly anticipated clash, sure to generate huge pay-per-view numbers in the UK as well as America, which also means a truckload of cash for both fighters.
Add into the mix the fact that there is no love lost between the rivals and this is surely a fight worthy of the MGM Grand or the Mandalay Bay.

The super-middleweight greats have previous as they met in the Super Six final back in 2011 with ‘SOG’ using his superior ring craft to convincingly tame ‘The Cobra’ that night.

However, Froch has revived his career since then with impressive wins over the then-undefeated Lucian Bute, Yusaf Mack, Mikkel Kessler and recently Groves, and will surely put up a better fight this time around.

I’m by no-means saying that Froch will come out on top in the rematch as taking Ward’s ‘0’ will take something special from the Brit.
But at 36 years old time is running out on his already glittering career, and what better way to sign off than by heading to Sin City to take on the best super-middleweight on the planet?
