price600By Scott Gilfoid: With two straight defeats under his belt against 42-year-old Tony Thompson, heavyweight David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) will begin what will likely be a long and arduous process of trying to rebuild his shattered career starting with a fight against 330 lb. journeyman fighter Evgeny Orlov (14-12-1, 10 KO’s) on January 25th in Stuttgart, Germany. Price will be starting over with a new promotional team and new trainer in Tommy Brooks.

Gone is Trainer Adam Booth and his old promoter Frank Maloney. His new promoter is Sauerland Events. They’re going to keep Price in Liverpool, UK with his training, but move him around Germany for his fights before eventually bringing him back to the UK for some big fights.

Price and the 35-year-old Orlov were supposed to have fought this month, but Price came down with an illness that made it necessary to put the fight off for a month. Instead of looking for a better opponent, Price rescheduled with Orlov. This kind of shows you that Price’s German promoters feel like Orlov is the perfect safe opponent for Price to fight. I can only imagine the opposition that we’ll be seeing Price fight in the next 2-3 years while they try to build him back up. I have we’re going to be seeing Price spoon fed weak opposition for a considerable amount of time while they let Brooks work his magic with him.

Brooks has experience working with Wladimir Klitschko in the past, but I don’t know if he’s going to be able to do much with Price. What Price needs is Johnathon Banks, the trainer for Wladimir. He’s the guy that was trained by Emanuel Steward the longest, and he knows a lot of stuff from him. I think Price would be much better off with Banks than with Brooks, because Price has got major issues with his stamina and chin that he needs help with. At least with Banks as his trainer, he could teach Price how to clinch frequently, use his jab for a change and him fighting on the outside instead of standing at medium distance with his opposition and getting nailed all the time.
