stevenson44By Scott Gilfoid: A November 30th fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (22-1, 19 KO’s) and his #1 WBC contender Tony Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KO’s) is close to being put together for the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

Boxscore.com is reporting that the co-feature bout will have unbeaten WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (22-0-1, 20 KO’s) defending his title against Ukrainian Ismayl Sillakh (21-1, 17 KO’s).

I’m not all that excited about the co-feature bout, but I do like the main event. Stevenson has got the perfect upright opponent for him to topple over with his big shots. This should be an easy one for him. I like this one because Bellew has been talking about how he’ll beat Stevenson for the longest time, and it’ll be good to finally see what Bellew can do when faced with reality.

This is going to be a bad fight for Bellew because he doesn’t match-up well at all with Stevenson, and he’s going to have to eat major power shots for 12 rounds just to get to the final bell. I mean, I don’t see that happening, but if it does Bellew is going to likely have a headache by the end of this one.

Bellew is coming off of a close, clinch-filled win over Isaac Chilemba in his last fight in May. To say it was an ugly fight is an understatement. The fight reminded me a lot of Wladimir Klitschko’s recent win over Alexander Povetkin where Wladimir clinched Povetkin like mad for 12 rounds.

We saw the same thing with Bellew clinching Chilemba constantly for the entire 12 round fight while the referee just stood there doing nothing to keep Bellew from grabbing the speedy Chilemba. I thought Bellew should have been disqualified by the 6th round due to all the god awful clinching he had done in the fight, but that’s how it does sometime. The bout took place in London, UK.

Stevenson, 36, stopped former IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud in the 7th round last month in an impressive performance. Cloud never stood a chance in the fight and ended up taking a real beating before it was finally halted after the 7th with booth of his eyes bleeding.

Before the Cloud fight, Stevenson destroyed former WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson in one round last June in an easy fight.

Kovalev, 30, is coming off of a 4th round knockout win over former WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly last August. Kovalev dropped the light hitting Cleverly twice en route to stopping him in the 4th round. The fight was too easy and probably should have been stopped a round earlier due to the punishment that Cleverly was taking.

Sillakh’s career still is reeling from his 8th round TKO loss to Denis Grachev last year in April. Sillakh fought well in that bout, but eventually was hurt by a big right hand from Grachev in the 8th. Once he was hurt, Sillakh was finished off by a flurry of shots from Grachev. Since that fight, Sillakh has won his last four bouts against little known opponents. In his last fight, he beat someone named Konstantin Piternov by a 6th round stoppage last August. Piternov came into the fight having lost 3 out of his last 4 fights.
