Tomasz Adamek vs. Bryant Jennings a possibility

adamek1By Allan Fox: A fight between former two time world champion Tomasz Adamek (49-2, 29 KO’s) and unbeaten #13 WBO, heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings (17-0, 9 KO’s) is possible for later on this year in a fight could be televised by HBO, according to Dan Rafael. HBO hasn’t said whether they’ll agree to televise the fight or not at this point.

Adamek, 36, is currently ranked #9 WBC, #12 IBF, and he needs at least 1 or 2 wins over actual top 15 contenders for him to get ranked high enough to get a title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

There are a great number of contenders well ahead of Adamek, and he’d like to speed up the process in getting a title shot by beating some top fighters so that he can land a fight against Wladimir in the near future. At 36, Adamek doesn’t have a lot of time to wait for years to get another shot at one of the Klitschkos.

Adamek fought WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in September 2011, but things didn’t go well for Adamek with him getting dominated and stopped in the 10th. But that was against the steel-chinned Vitali.

There’s a belief in some circles that Adamek will stand a better chance against Wladimir, because he’s been shown to be vulnerable when getting hit hard.

Jennings, 6’2”, would be a good fight for Adamek to win in order to get a better ranking. However, Jennings won’t be an easy because he’s a lot better than the guys that Adamek has been beating recently. He’s not a journeyman like Adamek’s last opponent Dominick Guinn, who Adamek defeated last Saturday night by a 10 round unanimous decision at the Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, Connecticut, USA. Jennings won’t stop punching at the 1st round like Guinn did.

And he’s not someone that will fold easily the way that Travis Walker did against Adamek. Jennings is arguably step up from Steve Cunningham and Eddie Chambers, both of which gave Adamek a lot of problems.

What makes Jennings tough is he throws a lot of punches, and those are the types of fighters that Adamek has problems with. Adamek does well against fighters that just stand and cover up the way that Guinn did last night.

This could be a mistake on Adamek’s part to face Jennings, but it’s definitely the right move to take if Adamek wants to keep moving forward to get a title shot against Wladimir. Adamek is going to have to take chances unless he wants to wait 2 or 3 years before he gets ranked high enough.

That’s not a good option for Adamek. He’s not young enough to wait that long, and besides that, there are younger heavyweights that will be moving up by that point. He needs to get a title shot within a year to have any chance of beating Wladimir. Both guys are the same age, but Wladimir seems younger and definitely more of a real heavyweight. Adamek is more of a cruiserweight that fights at heavyweight.
