By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (16-4, 10 KO’s) weighed in at 242 lbs. today for his weigh-in today in London, UK for his fight on Saturday night against the talented American Malik Scott (35-0-1, 12 KO’s) at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

Scott came in at 232 lbs, and looked in excellent shape. For Chisora, his weight was the lowest since the 241 ¼ lbs. he came in for his fight against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last year in February.

Chisora lost that fight but gave the injured Klitschko a lot of problems with his pressure. Oddly enough, Chisora looks in better shape for the Scott fight by far than he did for the Klitschko fight.

Chisora seems to have changed his physique entirely with dieting and a lot of training. That’s not to say whether he’ll have more energy or will be a better fighter. I’m not sure if he’ll change much in that regard, as Chisora’s fighting style seems to be pretty well set at this point.

If anything, he might be a little weaker because when you change your body as much as Chisora did it often doesn’t make you a better fighter. It could make him worse, but at least he physically looks better and it’s got to be good for his overall health.

Chisora might have been worried about the mobility that Scott has. Otherwise I can’t see why Chisora decided to trim down the blubber that he’s been carrying around his entire 6-year pro career.

No doubt he’s kind of in a bad place career-wise with three losses in his last four fights, and that also could be a factor for Chisora having taken off all that lard that he’d been carrying around. But mostly I think he knows from watching Scott fight that he’s going to have to be able to move well around the ring, pressure Scott continuously by cutting off the ring, and setting traps for him.

The only way that Chisora can do this is by being as light as possible and in excellent shape. I don’t see it happening. Even an in shape Chisora is still mostly just a pot shot puncher and he’s going to be eating a lot of jabs and quick combinations from Scott all night long on Saturday.
