Bellew vs. Chilemba II: Will the judges get it right this time?

bellew33By Scott Gilfoid: WBC Silver light heavyweight strap holder Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) and Isaac Chilemba (20-1-2, 9 KO’s) went at it last March with fight being dominated by Chilemba from rounds eight through twelve, but with one of the judges seeing Bellew as the winner by a 116-115 score and another scoring it 114-114 even.

The only just that appeared to be scoring the fight the right way had Chilemba as the winner by a 116-112 score. Unfortunately, Chilemba will have to fight Bellew again in their fight scheduled on May 25th this month on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler II fight card at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

This is the co-main event on the card, which has very little to over other than the main event and the co-feature. The rest of the card is kind of barren of talent.

Super middleweight George Groves has a mismatch against Noe Gonzalez Alcoba, and the remainder of the card is a bunch of obscure guys that I won’t bother to mention for fear boring the readers.

Bellew has been talking about how he wants to start fast and really put him on it this time, as if he wasn’t trying to do that the last time he fought Chilemba. Believe me, Bellew was trying his best to smash him out of there in lightning fashion.

The problem was Bellew couldn’t lay a glove on Chilemba, and was hitting only air for 12 rounds. When Chilemba suddenly started taking the fight to Bellew in the 5th round, we saw Bellew getting hit over and over again and looking downright scared.

That’s when the white flag basically went up for Bellew with him putting on his track shoes and running for the remainder of the fight.

I see the rematch being much more one-sided than the first fight because Chilemba knows how to beat Bellew now and has created the blue print. He knows that Bellew is just a crude slugger who just loads up with everything he throws and who can’t hit the side of the barn when you use a little bit of simple head movement the way that Chilemba does.
