arreola33By Allan Fox: Heavyweight contender Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s) had nose surgery last Friday to repair his badly broken nose, which was completely shattered by a huge right hand from the big punching Bermane Stiverne (22-1, 20 KO’s) last month in their WBC heavyweight eliminator bout on April 27th in Ontario, California.

Arreola made the mistake of standing in front of Stiverne and he paid the price by getting his nose broken and getting dropped.

Arreola ended up losing the fight by the scores of 118-109, 117-110 and 117-110. The fight was still a fairly competitive with Arreola having his moments and hurting Stiverne in the 6th, but he wasn’t able to maintain his aggression for any length of time due to his breathing problems due to his broken nose.

Arreola needs to learn from the defeat that he can’t afford to be standing directly in front of big punchers like Stiverne because he can get hurt, as we saw in the loss.

J’Leon Love tests positive for diuretic Furosemide following win over Rosado on May 4th

Unbeaten middleweight J’Leon Love has reportedly tested positive for the diuretic drug Furosemide following his highly questionable 12 round unanimous decision victory over Gabriel Rosado on May 4th of this month on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Love failed to make the 160 pound weight limit on his first attempt at the scales in coming in at 161.5 pounds. He did make the weight on his second attempt.

Love could now be facing a suspension as well as a hefty fine for the positive test.

Diuretics are sometimes used by fighters to make weight, as it helps them lose water weight rapidly so that they can make whatever weight they need to. They then quickly put the weight back on and are able to still fight without any problems.
