Should Wladimir fight Fury next?

wladimir564By Stevie Ocallaghan: After a fairly unimpressive victory over the game but ultimately outsized Steve Cunningham last Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) is now proclaiming that he will KO Wladimir Klitschko if he gets the chance to fight him next.

The thing with him saying this is at 6’9″ and nearly 260lbs if he can land on Wladimir , he could KO him as Wladimir doesn’t have the greatest punch resistance, but neither does Fury. In fairness when Cunningham put Fury down in the 2nd , he was hurt but his head was still in the game and coped well.

The diffirence between Cunningham and Wladimir is that Wladimir punches way harder than Steve and Steve was catching Fury at will.

I don’t see Tyson get back up after one of Wladimir’s big shots land.

The difference now with Wladimir is that he had one of the greatest ever trainers in his corner to tell and help him where he was going wrong and there was no one better than Manny Steward.

Wlad has been down several times, most notably in the fight against the late Cory Sanders when he was down 5 times and against Sam Peter when he had a dreadful 5th round and was floored twice. But Manny coached him and got him to use his strengths, you rarely see Wlad get caught at all now.

If Tyson would have been lucky enough to work with somebody like Manny, who knows what he could have went on to achieve, especially as he’s only 24 there is plenty of time for improvement.

When Wladimir was 22 years old he got stopped after his corner jumped in to save him from more punishment from the decent but limited Ross Purity, he had been put down a couple of times even before that fight, just like Tyson has been own before. Wlad went on to become the most dominant heavyweight from the age of 28, so Tyson most definitely has time on his side.

We know now that Wladimir likes to pick and choose apposed to fighting the mandatory and that’s why now is the best time for him to fight Tyson, because in a couple of years if Fury works hard and gets a better defensive coach there just might be a different outcome
