wilder33By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) is hoping to win over a new crop of fans on April 27th in his fight against former 2000 Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison (31-6, 23 KO’s) in their scheduled 10 round fight at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Wilder wants a highlight reel KO of Audley so that he can catch the imagination of boxing fans and show the difference between him and other heavyweights that have recently knocked Audley out in David Price and David Haye.

Wilder said to Sky Sports: “I don’t get no sleep, I don’t watch no TV. I don’t keep up with other fighters. I’m always working on my craft. In the beginning I was definitely a wild guy trying to get in tune with the heavyweight division, trying to please the crowd, but now I’m a much more polished fighter and much more of a calm fighter. I’m excited to show the world and all those who aren’t a part of the bomb squad, they’re going to be a part of it.”

As you can see Wilder is totally dedicated to his craft and is constantly learning and improving his game. At 6’7” and with arguably the most powerful right hand in all of boxing, Wilder can afford to still be a little raw. He makes up for it with that bronze right hand and there hasn’t been a fighter yet that’s been able to take the power from his right hand. I don’t expect Audley to be any different than any other heavyweight Wilder has faced.

The Sky Sports pundits think Audley can give Deontay problems by staying on the outside in the first part of the fight and spoiling so that Audley can get Deontay deep into the fight where he’s never been before. However, the odds of that happening are slim and none due to Wilder’s long reach and powerful right hand. Eventually Wilder will catch up to Audley and KO him. I can see him even hurting Audley in a clinch by nailing him on the side of the head like he did against Kelvin Price.
