Guerrero: Mayweather wanted a rematch clause; he’s never done that before

guerrero22By Chris Williams: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) sees fear from Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) as they approach their fight on May 4th. Guerrero notes that Mayweather has never asked for a rematch clause in any of his fights, and he’s wondering why he suddenly changed that for this fight.

Guerrero told AP “I think it’s also interesting that he wanted a rematch clause for this — something I don’t think he’s ever done…I think I’m here to humble Floyd Mayweather.”

Guerrero says that Mayweather will be 43-1 on May 5th after he beats him the previous night in their pay-per-view bout on Showtime/CBS from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Guerrero is incredibly confident because he’s really only been beaten a couple of times in his career by Gamaliel Diaz and Orlando Salido.

The loss to Salido was later wiped out and changed to a no contest after Salido tested positive for a banned substance, but it’s clear that he got the better of Guerrero in their fight.

It’s been eight years since Guerrero last lost a fight and that’s made him believe that he can beat Mayweather. Guerrero may have been winning, but he’s not really faced any real dangerous guys all those years. Guerrero was getting roughed up by Daud Cino Yordan in a fight that was halted in two rounds in 2009 due to Guerrero suffering a cut from a head clash, and it realty looked like Yordan had Guerrero’s number in that fight.

I would have liked to have seen that fight go the full 12 rounds, because I Yordan would have won and given Guerrero a beating. Mayweather is so much better than the guys that Guerrero has been fighting, and that’s the real problem that Guerrero faces in this fight. It doesn’t matter than he hasn’t lost in ages because he hasn’t faced anyone remotely as good as Mayweather.
