Ward: Froch is fighting the weak link in Kessler rather than me

ward6275By Scott Gilfoid: WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward is amused that the big talking IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch has chosen to go after the arguably weak link among the super middleweight champions in facing WBA champ Mikkel Kessler for his next fight rather than taking on Ward to try and avenge his loss to him. Ward doesn’t respect that at all.

Ward said on his twitter “Listen, I’m not interested in anything Froch says. Carl Froch would rather pick on Kessler than fight me. He’s going after the weak link. Carl Froch and Eddie Hearn [his promoter] need to stop misleading the fans. Tell the truth. You don’t want the fight.”

It’s kind of interesting how Froch has been blabbering about how he wasn’t at his best when he lost to Ward, and how he’d beat him in a rematch. But instead of looking to make that a reality, Froch moves in the opposite direction to fight Kessler instead of Ward.

I don’t know if you can call Kessler the weakest link among the current super middleweight champions because you can make a pretty good argument that WBO champ Arthur Abraham is the weakest among the four. I see Ward as #1, Kessler #2, Froch #3, Abraham #4. As such, I don’t see Kessler as the weakest but he’s definitely below Ward.

It looks like Froch is saving Ward for very last among the top fighters he wants to take on. He’s picked Kessler first, and then he’ll likely make a big push to fight Lucian Bute, and then Adonis Stevenson after that. Ward is probably too dangerous for Froch. What else can you think when you see Froch picking an opponent that Ward easily beat in the Super Six tournament. Ward completely dominated Kessler in 2009 in a 11 round technical decision win, whereas Froch was beaten by Kessler in 2010.

Like I’ve said before, I do think Froch will fight Ward but only after there’s no one left for him to fight because the chances are too high that he’ll lose.

I think there’s a confidence problem with Froch when it comes to him fighting Ward. I don’t believe Froch thinks he can win this fight because if he did he’d have jumped at the chance to fight Ward.
