Khan’s dilemma

Image: Khan's dilemmaby Rusty Nate: Amir Khan finds himself in an interesting position at present. Having lost his last two fights to boxers with inferior movement, speed and experience at the highest level in the biggest arena’s it would seem only logical that he would be considering his future within the sport.

Now I am a believer that a fighter as young as him at an age where his performance physically is not going to decline anytime soon that he can come again and make a success of the rest of his career. Manny Pacquiao took a couple of losses early on (one a pretty bad KO) and now look at what he has become.

If we compare two fighters such as Manny and Khan we see some blinding similarities in aggression, hand speed, movement and desire to be the best. For all of Khan’s negatives no one can say that he doesn’t have an unflinching desire to fight the top guys win, lose or draw. We even see similarities in their early career records with shock defeats suffered in devastating fashion but that didn’t dent either of these fighters confidence to continue on.

The major difference that we do see between these two fighters is the almost unbelievable vanity that Amir Khan seems to have for himself and his abilities. I would certainly expect a lot more modesty from a fighter who has been out worked and blown away (respectively) in his last two outings by fighters who are good, don’t get me wrong, but who are certainly NOT the top of the division.

Ultimately I think Khan has all the skill and ability to win his upcoming fight with the little known (and little physically) lightweight champion but his chin is obviously not great and his “I am Legend” type attitude I think makes any fight Khan is in a completely 50/50. If Khan can land a big shot he can win, if he is still there after 12 rounds then he wins, if he struggles to hurt his opponent and becomes frustrated to point of his ego taking over then it could be a 3rd straight lose for Khan and another little nap in the ring.

But win or lose where does Khan go after this fight? A rematch with Garcia would almost certainly result in another brutal knock out, Floyd Mayweather wont bother with Khan because there would be little money and an easy nights work, Pac Man could now be an option since the split from Roach but I think this would be a gift for Manny resulting in another Khan KO loss and a high profile win for Manny.

That leaves us with Kell Brook or Ricky Hatton…. Brook I think would beat Khan at this stage on points or by stoppage, Khans confidence is just too low right now to compete with a fighter like Brook who would hit Khan a lot more than he would like.

Hatton is a bit of a question mark until a few weeks time however at even 70% of what he once was Hatton would be far far too much for Khan to handle. Khan would not be able to hold Hatton off and ultimately would be stopped.

The Dilemma…….Win, Lose or Draw Khan has almost no where to go! All I would say is he definitely needs to put a lid on his demands and ego, he is not the champion and shouldn’t be acting like one.
