Image: Froch stops Mack in 3rd!By Scott Gilfoid: In a card loaded with mismatches from top to bottom, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) stopped light heavyweight Yusaf Mack (31-5-2, 17 KO’s) in the 3rd round after hitting hard with a right to the body followed by another hard body shot with his left. Mack hit the deck and couldn’t get back up tonight at the Nottingham Arena, in England. The fight was halted at 2:30 of the 3rd.

Mack was also knocked down in the 1st but that was more of a product of getting his feet tangled and then getting tapped on the side of the head as he was stumbling.

After the fight Froch said “I think I’m unbeatable.”

Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn said “We want Andre Ward in Nottingham.”

Good luck making that happen. Ward won’t waste time going to Nottingham when he holds most of the belts.

Mack showed excellent power but he just couldn’t handle getting hit. He couldn’t use his power because Froch was able to storm him each time Mack threw something. Unlike Andre Ward, Mack didn’t have the ability to fight in close and throw a flurry of fast shots to back Froch off. That was the missing ingredient in Mack’s game.

I’m not surprised that Froch won the fight. After all, Mack was selected by Froch’s team and they could have found a top super middleweight talent like Thomas Oosthuizen or Edwin Rodriguez, but instead they opted for Mack, who had been beaten recently by Tavoris Cloud and Glen Johnson.
