Image: Hearn: Andre Ward can't beat Froch in NottinghamBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn seems to have had some ideas planted in his head after watching Froch do a 3rd round demolition job on the hapless, badly over-matched Yusaf Mack (31-5-2, 17 KO’s) tonight in Nottingham in front of a mess of singing Brits at the Nottingham, Arena.

After Froch planted the brave – but limited – Mack on the canvas courtesy of two hard body shots in the 3rd, Hearn said “I don’t think there is one super middleweight, including Andre Ward, who can beat him [Froch] in Nottingham. We ant the big fighters next year, preferably in Nottingham.”

It’s okay for Hearn to wish I guess, but he’s not going to get Ward over to Nottingham. For that matter, Hearn isn’t going to get other desired Froch opponents Lucian Bute and Mikkel Kessler over to Nottingham either, so Hearn should just pipe down and not get Froch’s hopes and the hopes of his loving Brits built up for nothing. Kessler, Bute and Ward will not being going to Nottingham for their rematches with Froch. That’s the reality of the situation.

As far as the comment from Hearn about Froch being able to beat Ward in Nottingham, perhaps he’s right. After seeing Froch win a HIGHLY controversial decision over Andre Dirrell in Nottingham in 2009, I think Ward might have a hard time getting a decision over there even if he totally dominates Froch like he did last December. Dirrell kind of proved how hard it is to get a decision over Froch when he’s fighting in Nottingham.

The Mack fight could be the last time that Froch ever fights in Nottingham because unless Froch retires, he’s planning on fighting Ward in the United States and Kessler in Denmark. Nothing will change in that regards despite Hearn’s post-fight comments.
