Guerrero has been calling out Floyd Mayweater Jr. since Guerrero was fighting at lightweight, and no one ever took him seriously because he was two divisions below Floyd. Now Guerrero is at the same weight and could find himself in consideration for that fight if he only he can beat Berto somehow.

A win over Berto would no doubt catch the attention of Mayweather, and possibly get him to agree to fight. However, beating Berto is going to be a major task for the 29-year-old Guerrero because he doesn’t have Berto’s speed or power and that’s going to make it awfully tough.

To be sure, Berto was beaten by Victor Ortiz last year in April in a 12 round decision loss, but Ortiz has better physical tools than Guerrero and that’s what obviously contributed to his success in that fight. Guerrero won’t be able to come at Berto with the speed, power and size that Ortiz did because he’s not blessed in those areas.

Guerrero only has average speed and perhaps below average power. He’s not going to back up Berto with his slow, slapping punches. That’s not going to happen. Berto will walk through Guerrero’s slow shots and eat him up with blinding hooks to the head and body. It could get really ugly unless Guerrero can find some power.

You don’t want a fighter like Berto tagging you at will for 12 rounds because he’ll knock you out. Guerrero will have to use movement to try and elude Berto’s heavy shots because I don’t see him finding any power in his game by next month. Guerrero was a decent puncher at featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight, but he didn’t carry his power up with him unfortunately to welterweight.
